The second Lymond book takes place mainly in France, with Lymond in disguise most of the time. The first few chapters of the book, in fact, keep the reader (and most of the characters) guessing as to which character is actually Lymond. This book introduces us to Archie Abernathy (and the inimitable Hughie), Mary Erskine, Oonagh O'Dwyer, and we get to see more of poor, stalwart, long-suffering Richard. It features an extremely memorable parade, a wonderful scene in a printer's basement, an unforgettable rooftop race across nighttime Paris, and a fabulous boat and firework show, with swimming elephants.

I want to live on Jon Katz farm ! This is the first book i have read by Jon Katz and so have missed the story of why and how he comes to own Bedlam farm ! and how he aquired the rest of his animals. In a nutshell he is a journalist who has brought a run down farm and is working from home but running the farm and trying to renovate it at the same time, his wife a teacher has remained in New York. Most of his animals seem to have come to him as they are unwanted and on death row, but find a place with him. At the same time this book is not over sentimental and although he obviously loves his animals they all have a place and he wouidnt keep something just for the sake of keeping. Although this book is called "saving Izzy," it is about all the animals on his farm, Rose his workaholic border collie, pearl the pat dog, clem the loveable lab, Elvis the steer, chickens and donkeys. He talks about everyone, at least once in their life finding their "forever dog" and i think this is probably true, but maybe you have different dogs for different stages of your life or is there 1 dog that stands out when you look back at your life? It certainly gives you something to think about. He gives one of his much loved dogs away because he feels he is not giving her enough time and she doesnt have a place in the pack, she goes to a friend and has a great life, attention and sees him all the time, at first i thought this was harsh but as i read more i came to understand his motives and the fact it was out of love he did this. The other touching part was when he came upon Rose's ( his border collie who is obsessed with herding the sheep )den in the middle of the thunderstorm. You do get an idea of how intelligent and complex border collies can be and how the right dog and the right person can make such a huge difference to a farm.

I liked Bill Bryson's view of America. Being away in England and then coming back with a new view of what we see every day. I enjoy his writing style. I thought this book might drag a little, but it does not. He keeps it interesting without too much detail to bore you.

In this book Allende takes historical characters and context and makes them the peripheral structure of the story. I had just finished reading it when I was walking into work at Universal, and I noticed her characters listed on a reproduction Wanted Poster in Western Town. It's a great story.

This book infuriated and horrified me. It also openned my eyes to the attrocities that so many children live through every day. I'm so unspeakably thankful that my brother's four children are not among those living in such a state.

I love homes with character and love seeing all the interesting architectural details in different homes. This book has some great photos with ideas that would be especially useful if you are in the process of building a custom home and want to add some character.

:TINY SPOILERS: First I have to to wonder if in every one of the Night Huntress World series is going to be a tale about someone finding the love of their life. It is a tad boring in that sense and too predictable. In this one I find Kira to be way out of her place at points and that just ends up making me roll my eyes. For instance when she says something to Bones when him and Cat are there at Disneyland. Also, what was up with the way Bones and Mencheres acted toward each other in this book? The POV gives me the implication that Bones doesn’t trust Mencheres when in the Night Huntress series books I have never gotten that impression from Bones. In fact, I felt that it was the complete opposite. Yes they have their tiffs but what vampires wouldn’t after so many years of knowing each other? But to not trust him at all or believe him, that was just way out there. I also find that the way Cat and Bones act in the night huntress world series feels different then how they act in their own series. I dunno. They seem so awkward when they make appearances in these books. On another note, who is editing these books? I can’t say for sure but it doesn’t seem like the same person who edits Night Huntress series edits Night Huntress World. I find the writing to be a tad different and stifled. Or maybe it is just Frost trying her hand at something a little different. But what really bugs me is the many mistakes with missing words or misspelled words I find in these books compared to her other series. But getting back to the story, is it really going to come down to everyone in the night huntress world finding the love of their life and getting that happily ever after? It appears that Frost is tying up loose ends and it makes me think the whole Cat and Bones series is coming to an end because of it. I have no clue if this is true but there have been many books in this series so it could be possible. She is a PNR writer though so I guess it isn’t surprising she would write about people finding their soulmate. It’s just a little repetitive you know? And unlike Bones and Cat (who I fell in love with) there is no real wondering if they are going to be together because they don’t have their own series. I fell in love with Cat and Bones because they fought all the time, had problems in the relationship to face, and she ended up running off in the beginning. Hehehe. Reveling in the memories. I don’t know, maybe this series just isn’t for me. I’ll keep reading it especially when the one on Vlad comes out. I can’t ever give up on anything I swear it’s a downfall sometimes.... LoL. <3’s and fangs, Liz ^_^

My mom gave my wife, a would-be school teacher, a copy of this book. It is absolutely hilarious. I won't give much away, since I don't have a copy in front of me, and I don't want to write spoilers, but I will say this: it's an indictment of standardized testing, the way schools (from elementary through graduate school) breed ennui, and of the Bush administration's policies, broadly considered. One does have to suspend disbelief at times, but it's a bitingly funny book. One of the best Iowa Writer's Workshop books I've read (not that I have read that many).

Bu inanılmaz bir kitap. Ben gençken okudum ve bana yapıştı. Kapsamı, detayı, kahraman karakteri, istismarlarından daha fazlası, bu kitabı son derece büyüleyici ve zengin bir kitap haline getirdi.
