This is Rune and Carling's story. Rune, the top sentinel for Dragos owes Carling a favour. Carling is the councellor and former queen of the Nightkind..a Vampire. She calls him to her to fulfill his promise and in doing so he discovers that Carling is in danger of dying. They strive together to find a solution to her problem and in doing so cannot deny their passionate attraction any more. A wonderful tale of love and endurance that I thoroughly enjoyed

Wow, this book had me shocked. When you just figure out who the wolf might be, your taken by surprise, never thought it would be the dad. That was a shocker. The book was amazing, didn’t like the fact that it left you on a cliff hanger and you had to read the final chapter from the internet, didn’t understand why they didn’t that at all. But this book had you guessing right until the final chapter. Not much of a happy ending, but it was sweet.

Great book - well-written and two complex, lovable characters.

3.5 out of 5 rating This book seemed very dark to me. Not that the Sookie Stackhouse books are normally light or anything, but this one just seemed even more sinister. Maybe because it's easy to make a connection between 9/11 and the catastrophe in this story. And maybe because it was so easy to see the resemblence, I actually felt for Sookie. Normally she's just a character to me. I never really got invested in her. But in this story I did. I felt bad for her and I felt her pain. It seemed a little too real. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, From Dead to Worse.

Atomic Harvest by Michael D'Antonio does a phenomenal job of synthesizing decades of bad decisions made by production minded government & corporate contractors and politicians- largely to blame for our current situation regarding the United States' nuclear complex and its condition. From the compartmentalization of the workers (so that no one knew too much about anything in particular), to the propaganda which took place following Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to the community's outlook on their economic boom as a result of wartime efforts and "ending the war" (although reportedly Japan gave every indication of their impending surrender prior to our dropping the bomb, which was according to some more to prove a point to Russia than it was to actually conquer Japan), to the eventual desensitized outlook and machismo of workers who thought they could "beat" radiation exposure, to lack of environmental education and the outlook of community members who - despite illnesses caused by exposure to Hanford - would rather harm their neighbors than have the reactors spoken badly about - THIS BOOK IS AMAZING, and does a wonderful job of bringing the entire situation down to size. I highly recommend it, and a dose of "open mindedness" to anyone and everyone. Atomic Harvest should be required reading, as it does a superb job of introducing new thoughts on this topic that transcend patriotism and simply communicate about Hanford's reality, from which we will continue to reel for decades to come.

I would really give it 3.5/5 if I could. It starts off great in Part 1. Part 2 and 3 slow down dramatically, sometimes a little hard to keep at it. Once you get to part 3, it gradually picks up pace again, becoming hard to put down. All in all, it's a really psychological book, worth the read for its its existenial edge.
