*sigh* I don't really know where to start except that I love Mercy Thompson. Right now I'm leaving it at that because I have to process this book some more. Let's just say that we meet a lot of new characters and they are very....interesting. I did miss all the old ones though, but it was to be expected with all the changes and events going on in Mercy's life. I'm hoping in the next book she sticks closer to home and we get to see a lot more of Stefan and Warren. I also hope we get some more Sam too because he wasn't in this book at all. But, that would be my only real complaint is that I missed Warren and Stefan. We get to see a lot of Adam and that I thoroughly enjoyed *wink wink*

Alexander is one of those authors, to me, whose name you hear and by simple word of mouth and maybe even instinct you know to be good. Pulitzer prize winner and all. But you usually don't sit down and read much of his work. I am glad I did, and will be reading more of his stuff in the future. His prose is engaging, his situations and characters so completely Russian as to be fascinating, and his voice is clear. He is really deserving of his reputation. Wonderful stories and poems.

This book started out slow for me, but I kept hearing how it was more like Grisham's older books and main characters. I liked Kyle, I thought he was a young man caught in the middle. Toward the end it was too technical and too mundane. While I liked the outcome, I didn't enjoy how it left so much unanswered and unresolved. Maybe I just like all things tied up.....who knows. Still very worthwhile.

Lucky at cards, unlucky in love. Nothing more than your standard pulp fare ala 50's crime novel, but what sets this apart from other Block novels is that this book felt right. It felt like it just rolled off his tongue, off his fingertips, like the short con with a shell game. It's a bunch of bullshit but you eat it up because it's believable ( as opposed to some of his other character novels ). Block was born to churn out these types of novels- ones featuring femme fatale, a mark and the con man. It's not so much noir as pulp because there's no art to it. This book is pure entertainment and delivers that in spades.

As one who obsessed over our own family's real estate choices three years ago, it was interesting to read about someone else's ride on the home buying roller coaster. I have no specific knowledge of areas of New York, and found her somewhat frequent mentions of lists of neighborhoods/areas a bit irritating, as though I should know precisely where these places were. Her writing style was engaging overall, and although I didn't hit every word/every page, it was entertaining enough. It also prompted me to check out the local realty listings online; in home buying hindsight, we got a good deal.

I loved the Evernight series from the start, the way that you are never able to tell what comes next, the excitement, the action and the overall thrill that you get from the relationship between the hunter and the prey. It is obvious that Afterlife was written to tie up all the loose ends and because of this, the novel at times does drag. But with that being said Claudia Grey doesn't disappoint, there are thrilling plot twists within this novel that keep you turning the page. Though it has been said that the ending of Afterlife was to happy, I personally disagree with that statement. I feel that the novel ends with the reader not really sure if the ending is happy or unsettling. Your view on the ending and the novel as a whole is simply a matter of opinion, but in my opinion the story is wonderful, and beautifully written. This is a serieas that I would sugest others to read.
