Prince, Caspian. Ahhh, what a wonderful tale. Hahaha, well, maybe wonderful isnt really the best word, but it was a pretty good book. Especially if you consider when this dude wrote it. So yeah, I liked it.

I saw the movie, "Fight Club", years ago. I had what was probably a typical woman's reaction in that I couldn't get past the violence. It was difficult to evaluate the story because my attention was taken from it. At that time I didnt even make note of the author of the book. Recently my 16 year old gave me a copy of "Diary" by Chuck Palahniuk. I loved it. While Diary does venture a little into the paranormal I was completely caught up in the mystery. The tension builds well and keeps the book a definite page turner. The author uses some literary devices that are quite unusual and their purpose wasn't clear until the end of the book. I enjoyed his prose as well as his creativity. I also enjoy writers who are able to convincing ly write from the viewpoint of the opposite gender. I would reccomend this to anyone who would enjoy a mindbending little mystery.

I can't praise this book highly enough. All the main characters are well rounded and I cared deeply for all of them including the canines. I can't wait to start the next book to follow Jackson Brodie's progress.

I just finished reading The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay which was recommended to me by JK in our little cross country virtual book club. Divided into three parts, this is a story of a boy named Peekay coming of age in 1930-1950's South Africa. So, we've got major historical things happening - Boer War aftermath, Hitler Germany and WWII, the buddings of Apartheid. And then you have this really small boy going through hell at age 5 in a boarding school and learning at this infant stage in life how to survive. His power grows with each new and colorful mentor that he (and we) meets along the way. "First with the head and then with the heart," is his mantra throughout the story. There is little I love more than a good piece of fiction with brilliant and richly described narrative. I just found that a movie was made about the book in 1992... I'm definitely interested in checking it out but I don't want to ruin the absoloodle perfection of this story so I may skip it.

I didn't like this book very much. It was too depressing and I didn't like any of the characters. It was just a downer story. I realize it was supposed to get you thinking about global problems and immigration issues, but I don't read books for those reasons. I read a book to enjoy it. It was not badly written, I just didn't like what happens and how it ends.
