This is perhaps the first book I read that mixed fiction with non-fiction, alternating between the two. If I was pressed I would probably say I enjoyed MacLean's 'Stalin's Nose' more from an entertainment point of view but that doesn't detract from the social history of Burma enclosed in this book.

This is a great companion to Brave New World. It is especially interesting to read in the present day and to see how our concerns as human beings don't really change much. While often quite cynical, Huxley has truth mixed with his imaginations for our future. I really enjoyed his quotes and findings from Skinner, Pavlov and also analysis of Hitler's reign.

This whole series of books is so amazing and creative, totally immerses you in another universe. The movie pales in comparison. Update. I recently read this book with my 5-year-old daughter, first time I've read it since I was a kid. The story is so much fun and really immerses the reader into this other universe. The writing, however, is really not all that great. Very choppy, very old-fashioned. I wanted to edit it to make it better. I'm revising my rating to 4 stars, and if it were any other book, I'd probably bump it down to 3. But it's the Wizard of Oz, for crying out loud...it has to warrant at least 4 stars!
