This is without question the best book on craft I have ever read. It is intended for writers whose aspirations are literary. It has moments of pomposity which are nevertheless easy to skim over because of the wealth of tips and tricks and most importantly, honest discussions about what makes a story work. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys writing or reading fiction.

Kirsten gave this to me for the plane ride. I enjoyed Turnbull's interpretation of life in France. I also liked how she was able to find a line between her own traditions and the traditions of her adopted home. It was refreshing to see that she neither tried to cling to heritage, nor entirely embrace her new location. The one chapter that I didn't agree with was her section devoted to French women. She argued that their ways were uptight and unnatural. I've grown up with several French female relatives and I would argue that for them, their mentality is extremely natural--almost primitive--in it's approach to daily life. I enjoy their frankness. I would recommend this book to Francophiles, journalists interested in the life as a foreign correspondent, and people who like learning about cultural differences. Enjoy!

I like Kate White's books but this one took forever to get through. I'm not sure what is different about it, maybe there were too many characters to keep track of.

Love this series sooo much. I was fortunate to win a signed ARC of tiger's voyage and it did not disappoint. Colleen does such a good job of making you fall in love with every character in these books. What an emotional roller coaster!! I seriously can't decide between Ren and Kishan, it's killing me to wait and see what's going to happen!!

Was it just me, or was this book pretty all-around cheeseball? I felt like everything wrapped up too neatly at the end, and I thought there were too many cliches (including a dramatic courtroom scene where individuals each stand up slowly behind one person....blech). The author's overall message was good, the story was complex, and there were a few parts I found moving, but it was all too ultimately saccharine and heavy-handed for my taste. I also felt that the history could have been written into the story in a way that didn't involve so much obvious explanation, and I personally don't think it's appropriate for children to read about a bootlegging scheme. I know that I'm not the best person to talk about anything feel-good, but I felt pretty bored throughout the book, and it seemed like another novel that adults have decided kids should love.

If you haven't read Giussani, this is NOT the place to begin to understand the charism of Communion and Liberation (CL). Giussani founded CL, a movement within the Catholic Church in 1954, and this book is the conclusion of a trilogy that begins with Faith (vol 1) and Hope (vol 2). Reading this book throws the newcomer into the maelstrom just as it's reaching maximum speed; furthermore, the entire "Is It Possible" trilogy is a lightly edited, *translated* transcript of Giussani's talks with Memores Domini, members of CL who live in the world but have taken vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Memores are essentially non-ordained monks and plain-clothes nuns with jobs, living communally in one-sex households and dedicated to Christ. If you still want to learn about CL and Giussani, this is a great time to pick up "The Religious Sense," a core book in the CL canon that starts from first principles. CL "Schools of Community" around the world are taking up "The Religious Sense" this winter, and you can get in step.
