李 子光 1015981935c511 — Kirsten gave this to me for the plane ride. I enjoyed Turnbull's interpretation of life in France. I also liked how she was able to find a line between her own traditions and the traditions of her adopted home. It was refreshing to see that she neither tried to cling to heritage, nor entirely embrace her new location. The one chapter that I didn't agree with was her section devoted to French women. She argued that their ways were uptight and unnatural. I've grown up with several French female relatives and I would argue that for them, their mentality is extremely natural--almost primitive--in it's approach to daily life. I enjoy their frankness. I would recommend this book to Francophiles, journalists interested in the life as a foreign correspondent, and people who like learning about cultural differences. Enjoy!

Juan Pablo _uan_edin — i wanted to finish this book so bad that i actually stood in the Borders at Sea-Tac airport reading the last ten pages. i felt like a total asshole. that said, this book can be troublesome but also easy to identify with, because 15 year old Harry really can be a prick at times. i mean he's just such a TEENAGER. i can't stand teenagers. however, it's really a cornerstone book for the series. it sets up the end to the story perfectly. and the end is so touching...
