My Review: I really enjoyed the writers take on the origin of the Dracule otherwise known as Vampires. I had no expectations for this book, since I have never read any of the Authors work prior to this story. I loved the story and interactions between Angelica and Voss. Since this is the first book in a series, there is a lot of description and explaining about the world. However it didn’t seem exhaustive or overly done. I can’t wait to read Dimitri’s story and read about Angelica’s sisters and brother some more!

It's quite an adventure in reading too. Drugs, food and rock&roll. Anthony Bourdain doesn't hold back much and it's interesting to see how some kitchen operate in the very tough universe. A place where everything is about having some balls and guts. Of course, not every chef is a maniac like Bourdain and he acknowledges that. I liked the rhythm and tone of the book and the focus on the food, the restaurant business and not the private life Bourdain outside the restaurant. I didn't want to know about his struggle with drugs, his marriage etc. So overall a good account of some of what goes on in the kitchen of restaurant. I watched the few episodes of the TV series based on this book last year and enjoyed it. Looking forward to the series on DVD. I'm gonna enjoy Steven's character even more.

I've been wanting to read this collection for a while because it contained the short story "Benjamin Button", upon which the movie was based. Unfortunately, I was fairly disappointed in that particular story, as it felt so inconsequential and lackluster. There were a few stories I did enjoy, namely, "The Camel's Back", "The Diamond as Big as the Ritz", and "The Lees of Happiness". I'm not sure these particular stories make up for the disappointment of "Benjamin Button" and several other stories, but at least the book as a whole was redeemed by them. In the end, it could be I am not cut out to read short stories: by the time I have figured out who the characters are, it's over!

I am still listening to this book but what I have listened to so far I love. It is funny, witty and charming. I am not in the target audience but I can relate to some of the eccentric reasoning and self-depricating humor that Nora does. As well as I love the fact her opinions and her way of communicating them, she has been able to do so with humor and without bitterness. So far at least...
