This is a beautiful love letter to the Sierra Nevada mountains. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Arnold follows the early exploration of the Sierra Nevada peaks by famous conservationists, naturalists and scientists. Each chapter describes the peak, the explorer and then Arnold's own expedition to climb the peak using the same techniques, as closely as possible, as the original mountaineer. I read the book while hiking in the high country of Yosemite. I can't imagine a most inspirational book to read while hiking in the Sierras.

This was perfect audiobook "reading" on a road trip since, due to the touted postmodern story telling, it felt like a bunch of short stories with some connections between characters. The only problem was that I kept wanting to go back and find characters, and on Audible I couldn't do that. It was quirky and some of the segments were great, others not so much, but all in all it was enjoyable and will make for an interesting book club discussion on this form of story telling.

As I was reading this, I was trying to look at it from the perspective of a young preteen or early teen. (,15 yrs). Ms. Faulkner did an amazing job on this book. This book was incredibly creepy while remaining CLEAN. No reference to poor language, sex scenes or drug/alcohol reference. Ms. Faulkner's book is a clear example that YA authors can have quality YA books without resorting to what I mentioned above targeted to our young readers!

I thought the author changed her characters in this book a bit. At least, from the first book. Especially Rosalind. Throughout the whole thing Rosalind was kind of weird, actually. But I liked the... idea... of the book. Kind of stupid, but entertaining just as well. I like her main characters. Jane, Skye, Batty, and Rosalind, but they all seem older than they atually are. Which maybe is the point, but I mean like WAY older. Just, if you're going to write about people that young, make them act at least somewhere around their age...

'The Imperial Russian Air Service' will not disappoint. Highly recommended.
