My second attempt at reading one of Gedge's novels, and much more satisfactory. For starters, I love the premise of the novel, mingling folklore with the history. The characters, while flawed, are also more likeable - I particularly loved Gedge's Ramses II, however brief his appearance was. I did dislike Khaemwaset, though, mainly because I spent the whole novel getting frustrated with him always making clearly the wrong decision, even in spite of his logic. But I suspect that was deliberate. Additionally, I felt that the novel ended too soon. I would have loved to have seen the aftermath in more concrete terms - and more Ramses!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and I'm DYING for more.....I sincerely hope Stephenie decides to finish this someday. I LOVED finding out what Edward was doing and what he was thinking when we was away from Bella. I love the fact that he's the one who orchastrated getting Ben & Angela together as a "thank you" gift to her for being so nice and a good friend to Bella.

This book is so magical. I just really enjoyed reading it. I loved the narrator and how we were reading her journal entries. It reminded me of my own journal entries when I was in high school. The story made me laugh out loud at times. This is a really charming book that I would like to pass on to my child one day. Oh, but the movie stinks.

I generally believe that books over 500 pages need a better editor (case in point, Charles Dickens, although he was paid by the word so doesn't count entirely...) This is a long book -it's 900 pages-but it reads quickly and rewards the reader who sticks it out to the end. It's a careful and insightful character study of twins and mental illness, and probably one of the better books I've read that explores the family issues surrounding schizophrenia, and illness in the family in general.

My take-away from this book is that near the end, he talks about how teachers wrote on his report card comments like, "keeps to himself, prefers to be alone." In reality he never preferred to be alone; he just didn't know how to talk to other children. The anecdotes throughout the book about how most people converse, vs. how Robison would respond in conversation, gave me some insight into the students with autism spectrum disorders who I work with.

Saat pertama membaca novel ini aku langsung suka dengan kata pembukanya, dan terus ingin membacanya sampai selesai. Menurutku, deskripsi dengan detil-detil yang unik dan menarik membuat cerita dalam novel ini jadi bagus. Meski ceritanya sebenarnya agak biasa. Novel ini bercerita tentang cinta segitiga yang berlangsung lebih dari 50 tahun, atau tepatnya 50 tahun sembilan bulan dan empat hari, antara Fermina Daza, Florentino Ariza dan dr. Juvenal Urbino yang berseting waktu akhir abad ke-19 hingga awal abad ke-20 (1880-1930). Kisah itu dibuka dengan adegan saat Juvenal Urbino menemukan mayat kawan main caturnya yang seorang fotografer, Jeremiah de Saint-Amour, yang mati bunuh diri pada usia 60 tahun karena takut menjadi tua (:D). Kejadian itu mengingatkan Urbino akan ketakutannya terhadap kematian, yang tidak dia ketahui penyebabnya sampai ia menjelang ajal. Fermina kemudian bertemu dengan Urbono, karena sebuah kesalahan medis, dan akhirnya menikah dengannya dan menjadi istri yang baik. Sementara Florentino tetap terobsesi dengan cintanya kepada Fermina, dan melampiaskannya dengan caranya sendiri, sampai akhirnya benar-benar bisa mencapai obsesinya...
