This is , of course, a very popular novel these days, so I'll spare the plot synopsis. The novel is very engaging because the story is so fresh, suspenseful, and moderately violent. The novel is not rich with literary tools or complexity, and this is its only downfall. However, it gets kids to read and read a lot. There are some great themes running through the story. Suzanne Collins deals political, social and emotional issues in her novel. However, the central question that touches on each of those issues is about human nature under oppression. Can a person retain the sense of dignity, right and wrong and the overall quality of their soul when under oppression and fear? What will you do to survive? Do you give up your humility to live? Are we living in a “Dog eat dog“ world ? Another theme is poverty and class separation. There is a stark difference between over-glamorous Capitol and the twelve districts. The Capitol is shining with gold and colors to the point of looking fake and the people wear ridiculous attire and makeup. In a leisure world of the Capitol where anything one wants appears at a click of a button, superficiality reigns. The cost of one of their luxuries could feed an entire family for a year at the districts. Sacrifice - The protagonist , Katniss, sacrifices for her family, especially her sister. She takes her place at the Hunger Games without hesitation. She also sacrifices most of her life to being the sole provider to her family. After her father’s death, Katniss watched as her mother slipped into an emotional comma, abandoning her children in a different way. Katniss must break the law and hunt outside the district in order to feed the family. Reality TV and Entertainment- The novel makes a statement about our societies standards for entertainment. The wealthy in the Capitol, as well as those in the wealthier districts, view the brutal, involuntary killing and fighting as a celebrated sport. Just like in a bull-fight, the audience gets a kick out of watching injury, torture and death occur in an arena, except to humans. Additionally, the Games had to be sprinkled with romance as Katniss and Peeta acted the part in order to get sponsors. Is our society hooked on watching the drama and suffering of others on reality TV? Do we get some kind of a sick satisfaction in making sure to see a car-wreck?

This book was really fascinating. Lots of theory about identity and location. I love it when people are able to draw coherent arguments out of incoherent, contradictory narratives.

I literally stood up on my bed and shouted "oh my God!" when I got to the twist at the end of the book. It was a stunning finish that stayed with me long after I set it down ... I would have loved this story for its beautiful telling no matter what, but Elizabeth took me to a whole new level with her innovative ending. I highly recommend it.

"With Caution" by J.L. Langley is a male/male love story with all the emotion and caring any romance lover enjoys and the added bonus of uber-hot monogamous sex. Remi has a gut-wrenching past. The only light in his life is his younger brother Sterling and Remi has had to cut deal after deal with his abusive father to keep Sterling safe, but that's just what Remi does. So what can newly made werewolf Remi do when he discovers his mate...is a man. If his homophobic father finds out, well...there's no telling what he'd do. Jake has known Remi was his mate from their first encounter. Now that he's finally gotten closer to Remi, he has no intention of backing away. But with Remi's current problems and abused past, how can Jake expect Remi to be comfortable as his sub? There's so much more going on in this story than is possible to provide in brief blurbs. J.L. Langley has written a story that overflows with love and caring and the compromises that are required in building a lasting relationship. There's action, suspense, hot sex, humor, and a fabulous happily-ever-after that will have you searching out more stories by this author.

Very good, took a while to get going, once you get used to the adolescent arrogant writing (which is very well written!) the story develops well and the ending is quite a shocker. Another great book from RT, she is a great writer.

I read this meany years ago. But it was very handy as a reference for when I was writing my Master's Thesis. I especially appreciated the pictures of sites and how Jakob broke them down into parts for discussion.

Conclusions of series are always met with a bittersweet countenance (yes ive been writing Uni assignments, hence the BIG words :-P). And so it was with excitment and reluctance that I began the Circle of Fire, the conclusion to the Prophecy of the Sister's trilogy. Throughout this book, we see just how much the characters have developed. How their relationships with each other evolves; Its not all roses and buttercups when there are five young women in the one house (I know this from experience) as it is with the majority of this book. Loyalities change, alliances fracture and the s*&$t is all set to hit the fan, forgive my french... We begin Circle of Fire after Lia and company have returned from Altus in the previous book. We now have 3 keys and the missing pages of the book of Chaos. So you'd think it be all spelt out and pretty easy, right....RIGHT?..nah uh, wrong. Dead wrong. Lia still has the inability to forgive Sonia for something that happened in Guardian of the Gate, which causes tension between all the other members of the household. Bring into this mix, a new character with an attitude and things are set to boil over. Lucky for Lia and Dimitri, they are yet to find the Fourth key, the Stone and the Rite they need to end the prophecy. So the majority of this book follows the scope and sequence of the previous book, in that there is much travelling and riddle solving and scavanger hunting. Its all good fun though. Only it isnt, because Lia's only source of protection from the souls has begun to run out of power, until finally it ceases to work altogether. And if you've read the first 2 books, you know what happens when Lia is without some sort of protection. The plot picks up quickly, with a few twists and turns until we finally rech the stage where Lia and Co. decide to do the ritual to close the gate. The have the how, the when, they where....but they seem to be missing something vital, the who. For, the group also need Alice to complete the ritual "the guardian and the gate, sisters forever united...." Which makes for a HUGE compliation. The ending of this book left me a little numb. I didnt cry as much as I did with the end of the first book, but it is an emotional ending. No spoilers this time. Sorry, you'll just have to read it yourself :-P I didnt want these books to end. Its interesting, intriguing, romantic, adventurous, intelligent, spooky, annoying, heartbreaking, frustrating, heartwarming, beautiful, tragic and memorable. All the things found in a great book. There are just so many elements to this series that make it special. It kept me up waaaayyy past bedtime, kept me thinking about it after I put it down for a rest and you know..life, job, uni etc, all those annoying things that keep interrupting my reading! This is one that will stay a favourite, I will read it over and over again. Ill probably need to buy new copies in a few years, like I'm having to do now with all of Juliet Mariilier books. Ill reccomend it to my friends, people in book shops, randoms. Michelle Zink, you are now one of my favourite authors, thank you for writing this wonderful series, please, never stop being brilliant!!! No to wait impatiently for A Temptation of Angels.
