Ömür Akkor İle Osmanlı'dan Günümüze Türk Mutfağı - Ömür Akkor TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

Fascinating topic covered sloppily in a book with bad editing. Just watch the TED talk and listen to the interview with Terry Gross and skip reading the book. It's really a shame that I couldn't enjoy this book more because the use of robotics in warfare is a fascinating and important topic. I didn't realize the extent of the use of drones in the air, on land, and in the water by the military. It has shaped the execution and policy of the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. I was surprised to learn that there are people in a base outside Las Vegas who fly predator drone missions over Afghanistan and Iraq from a cubicle. Then they go home and have dinner with their families. I was also interested to learn that under the conventions of warfare these pilots are valid targets as they walk down the street in Las Vegas or attend their kids's soccer games. There are a lot of interesting observations like this sprinkled throughout the book -- just barely enough to keep me reading through it. The problem is that the book is so badly written -- suffering from points that are restated over and over, pointless digressions, and jokes that are either inappropriate or fall flat -- that I can't recommend it. This book should be about half it current length. This is a pity because the use of robotics -- and the eventual use of autonomous killing machines -- raises all kinds of ethical issues that should be dealt with now rather than after they are even more widely deployed. It's no longer science fiction. Update: I forgot to include this sentence from the book, which I offer as proof that it would have benefited from better editing: "Being killed by a remote-controlled machine is dispiriting."
