I did really enjoy this although I did get a little irritated by the main character (female). She was a little too good to be true. The story also did a fair bit of meandering before it got down to the nitty gritty. I particularly enjoyed the dogs used in for search and rescue each one having his own character. The author must have dogs of her own I think. I also liked the sound of the place where the story was set, it made me want to go there.

I have long been curious about Walpurgisnacht, the eve of May Day (Maitag in German) but there is little information available about it. It is much like Halloween if it was celebrated in spring. I was impressed, this book was surprisingly well researched for a New Age press book. The first portion gives us the history and origins of Walpurgisnacht, discusses witches in German folklore and holiday customs. The second part of the book has recipes, crafts and activities for the occasion. Many of them are simple & easy, including the materials needed, so it is quite family-friendly, as well as fun for adults who enjoy whimsy. All in all, Night of the Witches was fun & interesting, striking a good balance between background information & ideas for celebrating.

Basic summary-The key to good health is to eat as many fruits and vegetables as you can stand. Less meat and refined/processed food. A good read with some recipes in the back I would like to try out. I already know and agree with most of Bittman's arguments, but a nice review nonetheless.

After reading (and loving) the Magnus Pack series, I am now starting the Pride series. Laurenston has a knack for blending a hot-n-sexy romance with a dash of humor, a yummy alpha hero, and a strong kick-ass heroine then rolling it all into a great paranormal story. No wimpy damsels in distress in these books! Shelly Laurenston is now officially an auto-buy author for me! There are two stories in this book. The first is Christmas Pride with Desiree (Dez) MacDermott and Mason (Mace) Llewellyn as the lead characters. The second story is called Shaw's Tail and the leads are Ronnie Lee Reed and Brendan Shaw. Brendan is a minor character in Christmas Pride and what happens to him towards the end of the story is the beginning of the his story in Shaw's Tail. Overall, I think Christmas Pride was the better story. There didn't really seem to be all that much going on in Shaw's Tail other than Brendan chasing after Ronnie, but honestly, it didn't bother me much because I love the characters and universe of these books enough that a little lack of plot wasn't a big deal. An interesting part of the these two stories is that the fear of commitment is actually on the part of the females. Usually it's the male that doesn't want to commit to a long-term relationship but in these stories it is the male character who does the chasing and is determined to convince the female they are life mates. Dez and Ronnie both panic at the thought of being "in love" and Mace and Brendan, respectively, have to carefully work to convince them they are destined to be together.
