Fun little story. The mystery is lightweight, but i really enjoyed the main protag's voice (very important w 1st person POV.) It's erotica, so it the emphasis is on sexual shennanigans. I hope the author makes this a series-- longer books with the mystery part of the plot more developed.

Read this awhile ago. Really liked it. I really liked how the author was able to make the reader understand a culture, and a way of life that is so different from what many would expect. The author had a wonderful way of making the reader feel like they "knew" the characters. Characters were so different and diverse. Some parts of the book dragged a little too long for me, but all in all, I really enjoyed this one. Also watched the movie and enjoyed that too.

I discovered this fantastic book in the business section of B&N. I purchased it for a departing intern who works for me. From browsing through the pages it seems like the holy grail of tips on "getting ahead" in the business rat race. I have a copy on reserve at the local library and am purchasing a copy for Robyn. I want her to share with Allison also. I wish I had this guidance 25 years ago! I read this book in two days but I had other things to do why it took so long. I actually took several pointers away and will apply them to my remaining few years with the government.

I'm really perplexed why I rated this book only 3 stars a few years back. Perhaps I was just a egotistical little shit back then. Back then, of course. *cough* I was humbled, grateful, and so entertained by this book. There are some chapters I want to sit down and read all over again right this minute. Other chapters I'll settle on reading once a year when I re-read the entire book. This second reading of Bird by Bird took me about half a year to finish. I found that after every chapter, I wanted to pause and let the wisdom kind of culminate with what was going on with me at the time and things I had been turning over in my head. What I wouldn't do to get my hands on a stack of Anne Lamott's index cards - man do her little vignettes pack a whole lot of lesson about life and writing. One thing I'm chewing over from BbB is that getting published isn't the end-all-be-all of writing. It's not the award at the end of your work - all the days you wrote the book, both absolutely excrusiating days and the absolute best writing you've ever produced days, are the award. Being an artist, getting to write every day is the reward. Don't make it the chore and the means to an end to get published. This message also reminds me of one of a prominent lesson from A Series of Extraordinary Events by Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket). Enjoy the ride.
