This was an amazing book. After reading all the good reviews I finally went and picked it up and I am SO glad I did. It was more Urban Fantasy than PNR like I am use to but that was very refreshing. The story line was fast paced and edgy. It was very different than anything I have read before. I didn't want to put the book down. The only thing that bothered me is that I got lost in the Cajun language a few times. I wish she would have explained what they meant in the story instead of after the book. I will definitely be reading more though.

Wavered between 3 and 4 stars --- I really loved the book, couldn't stop reading it. But the ending is really weak and abrupt. Not so much what happens, just that it just sort of ends. After caring so much about all these characters -- somewhat of a rushed ending to me.

A dramatic opening quickly brings the reader into the story with no delay. I haven’t read any of the Hawkman series but author Betty Sullivan La Pierre establishes with few deft words the characters and the situation, so I felt at ease with Hawkman, Private Investigator and through her skills found him to be a well rounded individual that I could identify with and enthusiastically follow his adventure. In the small rural town a teenage student, Laura receives mysterious threats and Hawkman, with the aid of his wife, Jennifer, sets out to track down the perpetrator. The phone threats continue but are eventually supported by more dangerous intimidation when arrows fired from a powerful compound bow threaten not only Laura but Hawkman himself. As the unease increases, Hawkman’s task is to filter through the potential suspects, and there are many, but also to discover the reason for the threats and to solve the case before it escalates into violence. The tension builds as, one by one, the suspects are reduced until the culprit is revealed and Hawkman must use his skills in saving Laura’s life. With little evidence for Hawkman to start with, Betty Sullivan La Pierre expertly pulls all the numerous threads together, so that the reader becomes a partner with Hawkman in solving the puzzle. The Archer is an entertaining riddle and I’m sure fans of Betty’s works will enjoy it. Review by Brian Kavanagh. Author of Belinda Lawrence mysteries.

Definitely helpd fill in many gaps even when the ultimate outcome was already known. I enjoyed, although a few parts were a bit slow, and the finding of space in the library seemed a bit too detailed and almost unnecessary...
