Huxley's best novel, in my humble opinion. Takes the themes he began looking at in Brave New World and fully explores them. He creates an amazing world that you don't want to leave at the end of the novel.

** spoiler alert ** Read this to switch it up a bit from the vampire genre I usually like to read. The other book I read from Lisa Gardner was really good so I didn't expect this one to disappoint either. It was very exciting up until the end. She presented some great twist but I think went a little too far in the conclusion. Didn't really like the ending as much as I anticipated but it still was a good book.

I'm not a fan of fantasy but read this for book club. It was an action-packed adventure but I did not appreciate the 1970's view of women as objects. Quotes: "One day you'll discover that the opinions of worthless people are worthless...You have to do it your own way." (p. 20) "Evil has an insidious way about it, and there is some evil in all of us that seeks to dominate. We have to fight it, no matter how tempting it becomes." (p. 220) "How many people similarly spent their lives searching for their own spells -- ...when all they really needed was to be satisfied with what they already had? Sometimes what they had was better than what they thought they wanted." (p. 343)

This is an inspirational look at the critical mass movement and bike riding in general-non-competitive riding. I've been on one critical mass ride in DC during a September 2005 anti-war protest and it was awesome! The essays here explain what it's like to take over the streets with your bike to those who have never done it and may want to. The essays do get repetitive, but that is the nature of the movement where every voice gets a chance to be heard.
