Another well-written environmental story by Carl Hiaasen! I liked how he developed the good characters, who really do have personality. The dynamics in the family were very interesting. Weaker points of the book: the bad guys aren't as believable, and I would have liked a bit more mystery to keep me more intrigued.

I’ve been trying to cut back on the sugar and white flour I consume and this nonfiction was a great motivator. It identifies the four types of sugar addiction and gives advice on how to break cravings. I recommend it if you’re contemplating healthier eating habits and want more information about sugar addiction in particular.

This book covers so much ground and in such a poignant fashion that anyone that reads it will gleam something different from it. I’ve given it to a lot of people, and like most books as gifts have to face the, “What’s it about?” What’s it about? It’s about World War II, it’s about creative expression, it’s about the persecution of the Jews, it’s about sexual identity, it’s about doing what you think is right, it’s about not doing what you know you have to, it’s about a guy in tights punching out Hitler to sell radios, it’s about COMICS! I never answer that question. I just tell people to read it and find out for themselves.

Really interesting premise. Choked with (apparently) semiautobiographical elements that, not having read any other Powers books, drove me to impatient huffs and page-skimming. Ending was kind of a cop-out, but understandably so. This book could have tried a lot harder.
