This is a fairly exhaustive history of British late 60s and 70s folk, folk-rock and acid folk. Its definitely for someone crazy about this period of music, but does some archaeology on the whole of folk and English folk - which is pretty cool. Through this book I have discovered some pretty cool music of which I was totally unaware, namely Vashti Bunyan - wow, pretty good! There is also a chapter devoted to one of my favorites, The Incredible String Band, so that's cool. I found the book totally absorbing and well-written. You kinda hafta wanna go here, you know - but if you do, this is one great book. Again, the kind of incredible detail and trivia certain compulsive minds thrive on.

A solid new entry in the Hendees' series. The focus has shifted from the Magiere and Leesil duo to their annoying tagalong Wynn, who's spent the last year or so between books maturing and getting less annoying. There was a lot of recap, which actually proved helpful rather than redundant for me, but might irritate anyone who's read the previous volumes more recently. One of the things I've always liked about these books is the sympathetic viewpoint on the villains; while the big bad of the book doesn't get that treatment, you do still get a rather soft light on Chane, Wynn's undead admirer. If you're looking for deep thought, then these aren't for you, but if you just want a quick, dark fantasy read, definitely try them out.

I think I'm in LOVE with Kristin Hannah. I was so anxious to read this book, after having read 'On Mystic Lake' and just loving that story. I don't know if it's because of my current frame of mind or my current situation, but this book just spoke to every fiber in my body. The last 100 pages had me in great heaving, sobbing, ugly cries. It was SO AMAZINGLY GOOD and definitely a book that I will put in my library for future reads, especially when I need a book to put my life in perspective. Definitely not a light and fluffy read, but so worth reading. Probably my favourite book of the year so far.
