THis book is very dark, but has an important message that, although obvious, can be forgotten when one is in despair. This book pulled me out of a very ugly state of being.

This is a great book. I've read it quite a while ago but the impression still remains and I keep thinking of getting back to re-read it. It is a fictionalised biography of first dancer Rudolf Nureyev, one of the worlds greatest dancers of all time and 20th century icon. The book may seem a bit scattered, but this is just because the author tried to create a distinctive narrative voice for each of its characters phases and moments in life. I specially liked the epic tone, treating a classic dancer like he was some kind of super-hero. Reading Dancer is impossible not to fall in love with Rudy, what with all his contradictions and darker sides. As I said before, I read the book some time ago, but it always stays vivid in my mind.

I always have a difficult time explaining why I liked this book. Philosophically, I agree with Ayn Rand on one point: capitalism is a better system than communism. I differ with her on her absolute insistance that capatalism govern every aspect of human existence. That said, the plot of this book pulled me in and kept a fairly good pace throughout. I found this to be true even with the myriad multi-page diatribes against any idea with which Ayn Rand disagrees. She somehow makes these diatribes fit into the plot in logical places. Also, her constant drumbeat allows the reader to crystalize his or her own agreements or disagreements with Ayn Rand's opinions.

Full of gypsies, tramps, thieves, and various other colorful characters I'm sure Cher sang about, this book was fantastic. The Name of the Wind is one part Lord of the Rings, one part Harry Potter, one part Game of Thrones, and one part Oliver Twist; if you're a fan of hero stories, I'd highly recommend this. I've come to understand that Patrick Rothfuss is a bit of a fanboy, which definitely comes across in his writing. He knows exactly how to get you going. Very cool. I couldn't read it fast enough - I'm very happy the second installment came out this month!

I never thought of how it could be one year before the story in "The Enemy" , but this book gave a good picture about how things where look like back then. The charm with Charlie Higsons The Enemy serie is that not all of the main charachters survive, only a few are left in the end. Deaths, bloody zoombies and intresting charachers make that i feel i HAVE to read the next book in the serie, and given thought to that both first books where amazingly good, i have really high expectasions on "The Fear"

The last Melendy book was my least favorite. Much like how I didn't enjoy the Narnia books quite as much once some of the characters had grown up, similarly, Spiderweb for Two is missing something due to several of the characters having grown up and out of the story.

Two single, crazy busy New Yorkers suddendly find themselves the joint guardians of a young girl whose parents just died. The new guardians, both best friends of the young girls parents, do not know each other, and are suddenly rearranging their corporate schedules to include baby ballet and other preschool musts for the affluent NYC society. Cute story, funny, but nothing serious.

I've read all the other Dan Brown books... so you get to a place where you expected the twists. While The DaVinci Code was my first read and, as such, the most fun to read, I still enjoyed this one too. I was able to figure out a lot of the plot twists.. but the way he can weave history & myth will always impress me.
