Just as much fun as the previous three. If you like absurdist humour, you'll love it.

I love steam punk and really looked forward to reading Dead Iron. I am not familiar with the authors other body of work so I can't compare this book to her others. It was a bit slow moving at the start as you got a feel for the world building, but I found the characters engaging and the plot intriguing. I'm now thoroughly hooked and look forward to the next book to see where it leads.

I loved this format. This theory is told through a narrative that the reader will find very familiar. I have the audio book too and they did a great job with the production. The CTO dude had an english accent and that made his charater even richer for the story. I would recommend reading this with "Wisdom of Crowds". I'm very interested in these complex group dynamics.

This book took me by surprise...I thought it would be good, but not heart wrenching, crying buckets, love the characters, don't want it to end, good. It was a quick read, funny, but with some good life lessons that made you think. It was wonderful!

an interesting story, with lessons to be learned, but the telling of it was rather dry

For a media tie-in, it was done originally, continuing the ploy that Barbara Novak was actually a real person and not just the name used to cover-up whatever ghost writer Twentieth Century Fox hired to pen this book. I'm glad that I did not pay cover price, instead picking it up at a used book sale for less than a dollar. I usually avoid movie novelizations but I find that they do sometimes provide some depth and insight to a film I particularly enjoyed. I'm afraid that this was not one of those times; the story was as you see it on the screen with no further in-depth character development. I wouldn't be surprised if the writer was given a copy of the script and just typed it out in narrative format. Unless you're truly interested, pass this up and just watch the movie instead.

I enjoyed this book. It was a nice break from all of the paranormal books that I have been reading. It really kept my attention and flowed well. Several time, after reading for a while, I would have to stop and remind myself that this is a fiction book. I kept thinking that maybe this book was about Barbara Bush because there are so many similarities, but I knew that it wasn't true. And as it says on Barnesandnoble.com, " A word of advice before reading American Wife: put Laura Bush firmly out of your mind. While bestselling author Curtis Sittenfeld has waxed rhapsodic about her admiration for the first lady, she insists that in this novel, her most ambitious work to date, protagonist Alice Blackwell is most certainly not Laura Bush. Sittenfeld has conceded that she drew on some major events in Mrs. Bush's life, such as the horrific car accident that killed a fellow student in high school and her marriage to a man who is eventually elected president and steers the country into a controversial war. The rest, she says, she invented within the framework of that reality." So I know its not just me that was thinking about the similarities. The way the story was written really made me connect with the main character and there was one part where I gasped out loud!

The story was very touching. The images in my heard were so detailed by the way the author wrote the story. I enjoyed reading it and would recomend it to a friend

This book made me want to learn Portuguese. Not just a little Portuguese; enough Portuguese to be able to appreciate the beauty and humor of the language of this book in it's original tongue as much as I did in English. Saramago has an absolutely amazing way with words, but I really have to give some credit to the translator of this book (Margaret Jull Costa) too. On page 9, the government is making excuses for why death has decided to stop coming. Saramago writes, "Having uttered this pseudoscientific flim-flam, whose very incomprehensibility was intended to calm the commotion gripping the nation...". I'm not sure how "pseudoscientific flim-flam" translates from the Portuguese, but I'm impressed to say the least.

Bitirdikten sonra bu kitabı pilavlı tavuk çorbası ve flirtini ile yemek istedim. "Bir süre Eylül ayında tavuk çorbası Nil aşağı bir timsah sürmek. Bir kez kürek iki kez kürek tavuk çorbası pilav ile kürek."
