I would not still have been reading this book today if I had started it this particular week, given how bleak and even brutal it is. I would have put it down for another time. I did put it down, in fact, many times, for several days at a time. But I'm glad I finished, and I did find that the second half of the book more than made up for the first half. I was just dazzled--again and again and again--by the vivid images, the insights and ideas, and just the words. And I could feel myself opening back up to a book that had put a knot in my stomach for weeks. I'll read Seeing sometime, for sure.

كتاب رائع , أول ما اقرأه للعقاد وما شجعني علي قراءته المقدمه الرائعه للكتاب يحتاج الي قارئ جيد للسيره النبويه فالكتاب لا يشرح السيره لكنه يتعرض لمواقف ومواطن للعظمه والعبقريه مواقف محدده من حياه النبي وجوانب عديده يشرحها يفصلها كما يرد علي بعض ما قيل فيها من بعض المستشرقين بأسلوب سلس وعقلاني ويتناول الشخصيه من جوانب انسانيه عديده كان يهمني ان اعرف روايه الأحاديث والمواقف والإقتباسات ومصادرها بعض المواقف فيها شرح زياده عن الازم والبعض يحتاج المزيد من التوضيح والشرح

I loved this book! It was a little hard to get into it at first, a lot of the words were foreign to me. But once I did I was spellbound and couldn't put it down. I love historical novels, they put me into a world in which I am not familiar with. I learned a lot about the secret lives of Geishas, and Japanese culture.

I don't so much dislike this book as just really hate one particular story, Straight Fiction, that is in it. It posits a world where everyone is gay, but uses typical gay stereotypes; if everyone were gay, gays would be totally different, because a lot of gay behaviour comes from being a minority. It just seemed like a poorly planned aspect of an admirable thought experiment.
