Overall was good and ended how it probably should end. Definitely had a little different tone then the first two books, but it's probably a realisitic tone so I can't really complain about it. I can see why they are popular school books.

I borrowed this book from a dear friend, and now I must own it. I must have the words at my disposal whenever I want to remember Liesel's finest book thieving moments. Relive Rudy's run as Jessie Owens, or read about that dusty final kiss. When they are older I want my girls to know how powerful words can really be when spoken out of hatred and fear. How words spoken by the Fuhrer, ruled an entire country. There is a reason I finished reading The Book Thief on the last day of 2011. I want to leave this year behind remembering how important words, love, family and friendship are. I'm about half way through. Starts a little slow but then get's going. I hate to compare anyone to Nabakov, so I won't (at least directly), but the ability to write about strange abstract and somewhat upsetting topics in a light, expressive and enjoyable way.....I'm not saying, I'm just saying... I finished. It had highs and lows, like most longer stories do, but the quality of the writing never waned. Very good book and deserving of the acolades it's received. I just went back and gave it a 4th star. It deserves it.

My personal favorite book. I don't say that lightly. It has it all. Great story, travel, fighting, screwing, bathtubs as tombs, a great hero/anti hero, hookers, highballs. You name it it's there. Word.

The usual mixed bag found in this type of anthology but I enjoyed all the stories except the last - it was far too dark, not my type of story. None of them are very deep [when you have six stories 300 pages none of them are going to be War and Peace:] but I have added several of the authors to my 'looking for more' list. Worth a read.

ooooh Quinto...where can I find one?? What a charming and sexy story, I absolutely loved it. I just love it when a hero goes to great lengths to please his woman, and Quinn does this so wonderfully. He is sweet and charming and god is he sexy! I can't wait for my next visit to Tumble Creek.

Someone gave this book to me because I am of mixed race and so is the main character. I've always been down with Faulkner's depiction of black people. OK, I don't know if that sentence really connects well with the ones it's between. Regardless, the back of the book really emphasized the fact that the hero--whose name I think is some kind something that leads to the initials J.C.--is torn between black and white, and I really did not want to hear it, so I waited awhile before reading it. When I did, I really liked it. Less about race than just being lost and also about having a fucked up childhood, unloved by parents, something I find really really hard to comprehend and which is truly tragic. Anyway having that childhood and then kind of colliding with another fucked up person and I guess (and this is all a very vague memory) how wonderful yet ultimately doomed such a collision is. I do like this book.

Man was this book strange. Very heavy-handed in its symbolism, and often I felt that the author used language/sex just to get a rise. But definitely something original. It definitely kept my attention, and who dosen't like reading about circus freaks? But the plot was so convoluted and strange that it's hard to feel any empathy/identify with the characters
