This book was a part of my high school cirriculum (peer mentoring in an all-girl's high school). Interesting examination on the psyche of teenage girls, especially reading it as one. I've since re-read it a couple times. For a non-fiction book (which I rarely read) it sucks you in.

My grandmother's house faces this mountain range and it always enticed me. This was a fun young mystery set in the mountain and appears to be the first of more books to come given the hints at the end of the story. Bookends blog post to come with more details.

reread after having read this 7 years ago. enjoyed it again, but it didn't quite GRAB me in the same way that it did the first time around. looking back at the timing of when I read this the first time, it was right around the time I started questioning my beliefs. i wonder how much this book may have contributed to my eventual departure from the faith. excellent writing, fantastic characters, thought-provoking subject matter. a favorite.

My pops got me this when I was in middle school. Either to show me what it was like to grow up in Chicago, or to teach me not to be a pussy or a thief. Either way it was one of those early formative books that I loved at the time. Neither of us (my pops or me) knew it was considered good literature but I guess it is. I am still skeptical of the Modern Library list, to be honest. I mean Deliverance is on there. Entertaining sure, but great literature? Anywas Studs is a tough little fucker.
