I'm on this Christopher Moore kick because they have a bunch of his books on CD at the local library. Coyote Blue wasn't my favorite of his because none of the main characters were incredibly likable. Sampson Hunts Alone is a Crow Indian who has made a life for himself in the white world selling insurance with dubious business tactics. He is visited by Old Man Coyote, a shapeshifting Indian god, who is known as a trickster himself and generally causes a lot of trouble. Then there's the love interest, a ditzy hippie chick with a baby and a biker ex. Sampson starts out living a lie, then falls in with Coyote and Caliope and gets his comfortable life smashed up real good, forcing him to look deep into himself and embrace his heritage. Saw it coming from a mile away. But I guess there were some good jokes in there.

I bought this book at a dollar store so I didn't have high expectations of it but it really turned out to be a fantastic book. If you have an interest in Howard Hughes, I recommend this book.

I kind of cheated: I listened to an audiobook, instead of actually reading it. That might account for the five stars. This book is geared towards elementary/middle school children, so the writing style was simple and there were predictable parts and things, but it was still REALLY GOOD! I love ancient Greek mythology. I basically spent my childhood reading myths so I love that Percy Jackson centers around it. There were some sneaky "grown up" jokes slipped in here and there, which made me chuckle. I will definitely give my copy of the book to my littlest sister to read when she's older! :)

5 BIG, BIG Stars When I started reading this book I thought this would be a good read, pretty typical plot. Story line seemed simple enough, a sexy as hell, commitment phobic hero that wants the heroine in his bed and he won’t stop until he gets her there. It was a little stiff or clichéd dialog at the beginning, but probably 4 star read for sure. I was WRONG! Let my kids hear me say this because it is very rare for me to be wrong. This book went in a completely different direction then I expected. It just kept getting better and better, building and building. It was sexy, wonderfully intense, hot chemistry between John & Olivia, emotional and heartbreaking...tears were running down my face. John had big emotional and mental scars from a horrific childhood and boy could he be a jerk. He was such a meany and broke Olivia’s heart, especially the last 70 pages, but I still had such deep feelings for him. The seduction scene that Olivia set up for John was quite stirring and memorable!! Look for it...she drove him crazy!

I liked the premise of this book but I couldn't finish it. The writing style is not engaging, the story is depressing. I skipped ahead to the end. Without revealing the plot, I will say that I found this book to be pointless.
