I gave this book ZERO stars because it was the longest, most boring read, ever! I always finish the books I start and this one was a doozy. I liked learning about Chris McCandless' death, but why did it have to take so many pages to talk about it. This author had a need to compare his own life to McCandless' which led to boredom - non-fiction boredom.

Catching Fire picks up a few months after the end of The Hunger Games, and trouble is brewing in Panem, Katniss Everdeen’s country. After her ‘s and Peeta’s victory in the Hunger Games, they became instant celebrities, and they are very uncomfortable with their new stardom. Then, Panem’s president pays Katniss a visit full of threats for her and those she loves. Katniss learns her victory in the Hunger Games has caused people in other districts to chance an uprising against the country, and President Snow is none too pleased. When he leaves, Katniss is left feeling cold and worried for the lives of those she loves. In order to silence her, President Snow announces the Quarter Quell (a Hunger Game) for Panem, and all past victors of the last 25 years will be participating. Let the games begin...AGAIN! Collins does an excellent job of drawing you in, wrapping you around her writing finger, and making you want to keep turning the page. The reader grows to like Katniss and Peeta even more, and cheers for them as they face each challenge the Gamesmaker has created for the participants. Katniss is a strong, caring, female character who has the weight of her country on her shoulders, and you pull for her every step of the way. The twists and turns Collins brings to the story catch the reader by surprise at times, and they keep you wondering what will happen next. Because of the ending, I can’t wait to see what happens in the third book. This is a book well worth reading, but you should read The Hunger Games first to appreciate each character and to better understand the games.

I was very surprised that I did not enjoy this book that much. Everyone else has loved it. I figured out why I didn't like it. It was actually kind of painful to finish. I was very surprised that I did not enjoy this book that much. Everyone else has loved it. I figured out why I didn't like it. It was actually kind of painful for me to get through. I gave it 2 stars because the concept is pretty neat. You see, I'm a character driven type of person when reading. I need the characters to be so developed I feel like I actually know them. I need to care for them. These characters were not like that. Even the main character, Sam. I honestly did not care if he lived or died. Will I read the rest of the series? I'm not sure yet. I own the 2nd one. But, still just not that sure.

I did not finish this book. After the first 5 CD's the plot was so slow in developing and the diversions so long, I got bored. The story had great potential, but it was way to long in developing.

Tom Dunleavy, a former professional basketball player and local East Hampton legend, is getting by as an underworked and unmotivated attorney. His sports glory days and his one true love are long in the past, but he gets second chances at personal and professional redemption when three locals are gunned down, apparently in the aftermath of racial tensions arising from a heated pickup game of hoops. The police seize on Dante Halleyville, the country's best high school star, as their suspect, and Dunleavy must dust off his old courtroom skills and enlist his lost love, Kate Costello, as his partner. Patterson readers know to expect a surprise ending, but he leaves too few possibilities for many to be genuinely fooled. I totally did not expect the book to end the way it did.

Funny book about Becky meeting her totally opposite half-sister. Great twist of irony ends the book...

Sebald has perfected the art of writing about everything through the smallest prism. Austerlitz is the story of a man searching for his lost childhood in pre-World War 2 Prague. His search takes him through 20th Century history's greatest tragedies and many of it's darkest forgotten corners. Much more so than in previous works Sebald becomes obsessed with architecture (abandoned fortresses, disused train stations, Prague itself), and also recovering and remembering his youth.

Eh. I finished it but have no inclination to continue onto the second book. The characters are a little unbelievable and the story has the reader taking some pretty big leaps of faith in its believability.
