I really enjoyed listening to this book. It was good for a mystery/thriller type. I think it was a little better than the first Baldacci book, Absolute Power because it was more compact and it got to the point more quickly. Where I thought the book went wrong was at the ending... maybe the last 1/4th or so. I think that the plot resolution, as you finally find out about it at the end, is too convoluted and fantastical. However, as I said, it WAS very readable and I really was compelled to see how it did end. I am also getting a little sick of these mystery/thriller books, after reading 2 by Baldacci in fairly close succession. SO, I will pick something totally different next!

Woah! What a book! What a story! What a rush! Surprising and excellent. When I started this I kept thinking, "This would be a great book for smart boys." As I continued, I just couldn't believe how much I was loving it. It's like Scott Westerfeld on crack and way better. (Or some other statement that makes you want to go check this out soon).

Too boring and dry to finish.

On the surface, it seems like I would like this book about an Italian-American woman learning the family shoemaking business and looking for love. However, it just wasn't my kind of book. There was too much detail about clothing and room decor--I don't really care that the eldest daughter was wearing a cream wool pencil skirt, a cream cashmere cardigan, pearls, silver bangles on her wrist, and a cream embossed leather shoe with black piping on the vamp. Don't care! The similies and metaphors also seemed like the author was stretching a lot of times. Little Italy looked like ruby and diamond chips in a diamond drop earring? Huh? My other main beef was that I never felt invested in the main character. She was kind of a twit, and she kept talking about how old she was at 33. I didn't care what happened to her, and I found myself snorting in disbelief when, at the end of the book, she said something about how she kept love at a distance. Why hadn't we heard anything about this trait before? Why did I care so little? I guess, if I'm going to have some chick lit, I want the protagonist--and the story--to have some humor and sass and chutzpah. Otherwise, what's the point?

I'm a bit fan of Charlie Houston and this did not disappoint. It's especially perfect this time of year as I like to set up next to the pool is a good book that keeps me hooked. On to the next in the series!

The book (and movie by the same name) are both great means by which Camus' theories on life are conveyed. Stark and dark, there remains inspiration woven throughout.

Some of the most feminine fairy tales I have ever read. I must say that I quite enjoyed them.

This was a slow starter for me with the beginning so well set up as a police procedural murder mystery about a student being killed that it took me a while to get into it, but once there, I can only stand in awe of Mieville's ability to create a credible speculative world based on a very intriguing idea: 2 cities that are geographically overlapped or proxemic to each other but whose inhabitants are not allowed to "see" each other or they have committed a "breach." In fact, while I did not mind, the resolution of the murder was less satisfying than the geography of getting there, and I do mean "geography."

I read this book in 5th grade after my brother assured me that I would like it, since King wrote it for his teenage daughter who did not care for his typical horror novels. I remember reading it extremely quickly, completely engrossed in the story and very relieved that it did not give me nightmares. Anyone who's a King fan or loves new fairy tales will appreciate this nice departure.
