as much an engaging mystery as it is a commentary on our tendency to use the different aspects of our personalities as weapons- to represent ourselves differently to different people as it suits us. Quick and painless, but you should probably check out Nabokov's classics to really appreciate this little diversion.

The Book Thief was one of my greatest reads in years. No book in my recent memory had the characters so beautifully rendered and so masterfully created. The Narrator is the death himself and he tells of the Nazi Germany in the time of second world war. The adventures of a little girl living in a foster home. it tells of the people living in a small town and their interaction with each other and the difficulties on all their lives due to the Hitler's ambition in conquering the world. It's a must read for everyone.

WRITING STYLE: 2.5 PLOT: 2.5 PROTAGONIST: 3 CAPTURED MY INTEREST: 2.5 OVERALL: 2.5 This book was chosen for last months SLC Library's teen book club. I was hoping to like it because I'm such a YA fan. This is one of those books where you need to delve into spoilers to really review it. . . . . . . . . . . . . First off I can see why it was chosen for literary awards. It's stream of consciousnesses writing which didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. There's run on sentences and barely any punctuation. It's a little disconcerting at first but you get used to it. You really see the point when at the end of the book all of a sudden there is punctuation - it has it's intended point of letting the reader know that something has changed for Daisy. The book also "addresses" some challenging issues. I put that in quotes because I personally think the book does a POOR job of addressing these issue. Yeah Rosoff brings up incest and anorexia but she doesn't help the reader understand it all all. It's just what it is and I think as a teen that would be confusing. Personally as someone who has always had weight/food issues this book made me NOT want to eat which I think is the opposite of what a YA book should do. The incest was even worse - at least Daisy recovered from her anorexia - she's still in love with her cousin and it's never looked analysed or condemned. It's simply ok. Besides that it was pretty unbelievable to think that Daisy and Piper could have survived and functioned they way they did. It was too much of a stretch for me. Add to that that the lover is named Edmond and can read minds. And really the book was unbearably slow until at least half way through. Overall it's not a YA book I'd recommend to really anyone.

I read this book in high school and didn't love it. I re-read it again a couple of years ago and really liked it. Once you get a bit older, you really appreciate the prose and the description of the life of Gatsby and his peers.

I just gotta say, it was so much better than the fourth one. If there's anyone reading this who liked the series but thought the fourth one was such total crud that they wouldn't even bother with the fifth, I would suggest reading it. It's nowhere near as preachy about global warming. Sure, it isn't quite Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports, and it's not even in the same league as School's Out- Forever (my personal favorite). But it was good. Very good. So read it. Yes.
