** spoiler alert ** Pemba was an interesting character that walked a fine line between her teenage self, and her adult author. Her thoughts and feelings perfectly addressed how a teenage girl would take moving to a new and unfamiliar place, but a few of her thoughts seemed a bit out of place. While I enjoyed the plot, the story itself seemed to have a few small holes in it. As a reader I was more curious about the slave girl whose spirit she was contacting, and the story didn't give full views of her or the rest of the town. I would think that with all the slavery and town history she and Abraham were delving into, that they would have mentioned more than just this vague murder mystery. In all, I did like the story, and the poems found inside were pretty cool as well. For a reluctant reader, or someone who doesn't wish to sit too long with a story, this is a PERFECT quick read.

Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous (if not the most) and yet I find that I liked MacBeth and Hamlet more.

It was so hard to put this and any of his books down, partly because they are so good, and also because he leaves me hanging at the end of each chapter. He knows how to draw the reader in.

This is the first of Dick's last 3 books, and the best in my opinion. The death of two women lead to this third person autobiography about Dick's concurrent quest for god and descent into insanity. This version contains about 20 pages of the exegesis that Dick believed was revealed to him by pink lasers shot into his brain by a god-like being. Well worth a read.

This book is one of my absolute favorites. The recipes are full of flavor and super healthy. No need to buy Chinese take out if you have this book in your arsenal. Majority of the ingredients are easy to find locally. Ching really gives you the authentic flavor with recipes that you can cook in just thirty minutes; great for weeknights!

I am shocked at how much I liked this book. I got through it all in what seemed like a few quick swoops during one day. The book starts out pretty erotically charged with the fifteen year old Michael telling us the details of his affair with thirty six year old Hanna. We quickly see Hanna's dark side and she intrigues us. And she keeps Michael at a distance so we don't learn too much about her which just adds to the story. Time moves along and we meet Hanna again at a war crimes trial where Michael sees her as a law student. We learn she was a guard for the Nazis and of course did her share of bad stuff. What is important is you hang on every detail you learn about Hanna. You want to figure her out. And Michael is torn because he wants to help Hanna but has some interesting philosophical questions to deal with and not the standard she killed the Jews morality crap. I just loved the relationship between Hanna and Michael. It was complex and has left me pondering all kinds of things in my head. This was an odd book in a good way.

I have picked this book up and read some and put it aside for a little while. I think this is the best way to get through it as it is a pretty lengthy read, but very informative and actually readable given that a commission put this together, and as you may know, most commission's wind up not making any sense as that is the point of any good commission. But a solid read, and I would recommend to anyone who wants to get a pretty informative and unbiased account of what happened on 9/11.

Wittig is one of my all-time feminist heroes and Across the Acheron just reinforces that. Incredibly entertaining, extremely clever take off on Dante's Inferno on a feminist premise with some really hilarious and insightful passages. Women in the feminist movement could still learn a lot from Wittig's wisdom about our current political situation.
