SO original and very creepy/sad. The photographs were the fun surprise and I loved reading that they come from collections. As usual, when I first began to read this I felt embarrassed for reading another "teen" book but this is for adults as well. Some of it spoke to the teen but I loved it. What a ride.

Father Brown, that innocent cleric, always has the answer because he is used to dealing with good and evil and is able to see it more quickly than his more jaded companions. It also helps that he has an amazing intellect and keen observation. These stories are so much fun. A crime is committed and no one can see how it could have been done. Father Brown gives 3 or 4 explanations and his companions are stupefied. He explains that they said there could be no explanation and he has provided 4, none of which is correct. Then this innocent innocuous little priest explains exactly what happened. As you would expect, he is always completely moral and concerned more about the spiritual condition of the criminal than the offense to society. He has some interesting ways for the criminal to be reconciled to God though and than makes these stories even more interesting.

I am so glad to finish this series. The first 5 or so books really captured my imagination and left me wanting more. By the time I hit the 8th book or so I wanted to enjoy the books but found myself just wanting to complete the series. I started this series in January and have compelted all 12 books before Easter. Sometime I may pick up one of the pre-qual books but not any time soon.

Although it's been years since I read this novel, It still comes to mind and I travel back to Edgar's life in my mind. A compelling book deftly told and one that stays with you a long, long time. I continue to think of the ending the author chose and I'm not sure I could have ended the story any differently even though it made me terribly sad.

A good take on the War of the Worlds story. Miles Walker is a survivor of the first wave of alien invaders (although his wife was not). Turns out that after the death of the aliens (like in the original War of the Worlds) a second wave occurs. The facts that Miles figures out that the original aliens weren't killed by Earth's microbes, but were already dying when they came here and that Miles may have some past connection to the alien invaders makes this much more interesting than the average post apoco/alien invader story. Well written and the art is good. I'm excited to read the upcoming volumes (I guess I could just collect the rest of the series).

Dod-a-chok. This book introduces more weirdness to the Dark Tower series and is instrumental in setting the tone for the remainder of the series. If by the end of this book you're not interested, you might want to consider stopping reading while you still can.

Hm... thought I'd rated this. Anyway, excellent retellings. The thing I love about fairytales is that they lend themselves to such a variety of original retellings, it's wonderful seeing how the elements of the familiar stories can be spun into something creative and new. These were very well written, but I think the one I can remember the most vividly is the Snow White one.
