Okay, I'm giving this five stars purely based on my childhood memories of this book. I couldn't tell you if it is really any good, but I LOVED it when I was a kid. It made me want to be an archeologists, and reading it, I felt like I, myself, had discovered a whole new world. I was convinced that just knowing that name Schliemann made me the coolest person in the world.(OMG how did I ever survive highschool???) (I also found a tea sock buried in the playground sand once, which - in hindsight - I'm pretty sure wasn't left there be ancient eqyptians, but I sure didn't know that back then.)

A British spy Cold War story. Extra emphasis on the cold. The story takes place in West Berlin where a double agent is shot dead trying to defect to West Berlin. The commander of the British Secret Service there, Leamas, is called back to Britan and is asked to return to the field to help muck up East German information. A trial takes place in East Germany, and Leamas shows how one person, Mundt, must be a double agent. During the trial, Leamas learns the 'true' scheme of the British secret service and tries to rescue the actual target. The book was ok, but dragged. Due to an extremely busy schedual, I had a hard time finding time to read it, even though the chapters were of shorter length. Not being a fan of spy novels, I was not totally enthralled in the plot.

This story is brilliant. It portrays fate in every manner, through every aspect of the story. Fate that we do not recognize in our own lives, until it happens twice. Even when something is right in front of us, we don't take the risk. This story is about the risk of fate, and the risk of believeing in something that you can never be sure really exists. It is built for a dreamer, but based on believing. And I adore this story. So very much.

Read. This. Book. Dorothy is the fAkest little brat you will ever know. This is an amazing book and it will change the way you see the wizard of oz story completely. The wicked witch has a life and a tually isn't as wicked as you think. She was as innocent as dorothy. Very tragic book. :(
