I loved reading this book because I was immediately engaged by Christine Vachon's stories and words of wisdom. She has this down-to-earth edginess that I love. The book includes stories from film makers like Todd Solondz, Todd Haynes, John Cameron Mitchell as well as agents, producers and distributers. I learned so much - it's one of those books that I want to reread because I ate it up so quickly.

Considering that I read this at a very young age, I felt the passing from the first three books - action-packed, full of intrigue and political alliances - to the more philosophical/psychological fourth very annoying, and frankly, quite boring. Nowadays (some 5 years later) I find myself enjoying it immensely, probably in the same way that a youngster passes from McDonald's to pizza (that is, italian pizza). It's not that I consider the first puerile, just different. This one is more about symbols.

i have tried and tried to like the anita blake series. i just don't see where are the raves are coming from. anita is annoying. hamilton's writing is pathetically repetitive. i gave up on the series at the beggining of lunatic cafe. i can tolerate unimaginative writing, i'm not a book snob by any means. but, this series, is just painfull.

Falls prey to the flowery/boring prose problems of most contemporary American authors; and unlike in Harry Potter, there is no driving plotline to keep the reader's interest. However, I will say that Welch's prose is often rises from his ilk and actually spins together an interesting metaphor or underlies a moment of subtle emotion.
