Recomendado.

Solid collection of Wolfe short stories, the title story and its variants are especially strong.

Taft was the only book by Ann Patchett I hadn't read. I've had it for years and have begun it at least twice and failed to finish it both times. Now that I have finished it, I think I didn't the first two times I began because I hadn't read far enough to really get attached to the characters. Sort of slow to take off. Some rewards once it does.

I wanted to burn this book. The worst of chick-lit.

I would probably give it about a 2.5 because I liked parts of it like the small town charm, the shops, the dogs, but I didn't like the main character Julia very well.

I loved it, but it's too late to review it at the moment!

I enjoy Tahir Shah's books, and learned so much about Ethiopia. Walking the gold trail of the ancients was interesting, but this was not my favorite work by Shah. At book club, one of the critiques was that Mr. Shah can sometimes seem a bit condescending towards the people he writes about, and I felt that in this book. Perhaps it was his yearning to follow in the footsteps of those Europeans who organized similar expeditions before him, but it came across as somewhat imperialistic to me. But you've got to hand it to him, it takes courage (or insanity!) to make the journey that he did and I appreciated his story of how the Ethiopians live.
