** spoiler alert ** Admittedly, I started this book with low expectations because of the impressions left on me from the first two books/parts of the series ("The Awakening" and "The Struggle"). Maybe those low expectations helped, but I really, really enjoyed this book. Actually, I think I like this part of the series more than the beginning. The fact that it took me four days to finish the first book and only a few hours to finish this one is not lost on me. The pace rarely slowed, the other characters were more present due to the lack of Elena, and the ache everyone felt from her loss was palpable. I even cried at the end -- always the sign of a good book for me. I am a little lost on what Elena will be now, though. Is she an angel? Is she human? Will she be immortal or does Stefan have to change her again? Also, I wish that Damon had a HEA. As much as he portrays himself as "the big bad", my heart ached for him.

This is the second Bradbury book I've read (the first being Fahrenheit 451), and just like the first, it was absolutely marvelous. The storyline is not exactly cohesive; rather Bradbury gives a series of stories using the premise of Earth's colonization of Mars. I love the subtle sinisterness Bradbury uses to shape the novel.

I'm sorry, but I do love Dennis Lehane. And I think so far, this is the best book of his I've read. I'm sure Mystic River is awesome, but I do feel that his books are best if you don't know the plot in advance. Skip the movie of this one and go straight to the book! A well written and compelling read.

Lawrence Hill has written an absolutely amazing story. One of the best historical fiction books I have ever read. A terrible story about slavery but a beautiful story about the resilience of a young African girl and her journey through life.
