This was really kind of twisted. Somehow the narrator sounds so detached from what she's seeing. There's something about the way Susie watches her family members having sex that's really disturbing. She's a 14-year-old girl. This concept of heaven is quite interesting though.

Not bad. It started off a little slowly but it got really intense in the middle and then some of it was genuinely frightening! There was a bit too much technobabble to explain it all though and all the time loops got a bit confusing.

I can't even think of a comment to make other than "blah" and I didn't like this book at all. From back cover: "From the acclaimed author of Leaving Brooklyn and Disturbances in the Field comes a witty, sophisticated novel that confirms Lynne Sharon Schwartz as a major voice in American fiction. At age forty, Laura is struggling with the violent death of her reporter husband as well as an obsessive on-again-off-again love affair with an elusive actor. Suddenly, she find herself incapacitated by a mysterious lethargy - a love affair with her bed, as she puts it. Though Western medicine can name her disease, and its cause, it can do nothing to cure her. As time and alternative methods gradually bring Laura back to health, she finds solace and meaning in writing about her encounters with often wrongheaded but well-meaning stangers, friends, lovers, and family. Lynne Sharon Schwartz has created a haunting mosiac of a woman adrift in society: Laura's illness and recovery are a metaphor for the modern urban malaise, and for the spirit that can defeat it."

Zsadist is my favorite brother. No one messes with this badass Vamp. He's a mean bastard. He's scarred, and with a glare from his pitch black eyes, he frightens most people. He hates everything. Menace and hate are his friends. "Ruined, not broken," his twin brother Phury would say. The greatest thing about Z's story? Love turned his life around.

Cute, but nothing to write home about.

Except for "The Bad Beginning," I do not own any of the Lemony Snicket books. I read all thirteen volumes at various bookstores in the U.S. and in Europe, while waiting for trains or planes. (Children's Lit)

The Plot: The trials of Charlotte Bronte during the writing of her famous Jane Eyre. My Verdict: This is a fantastic book. It captures perfectly the gloominess of Charlotte's life and gives insight into the events that inspired her novel. I would recommend that Jane Eyre be read before this book although I imagine anyone interested in reading Becoming Jane Eyre will already have read Charlotte's masterpiece already.

I was excited about this book, but I didn't think it held together very well. I would have preferred more synthesis of the WPA essays and less unedited primary source material--something more along the lines of Laura Shapiro's food writing.
