The book started off really strong and drew me in but towards the middle and end, I found myself skimming over a lot of the statistical information and wanting to get back to "the story". I plan to read the son's book to get his version.

The book is split into two parts, focusing first on the oppression of women throughout all society; from Burquas to Botox to Barbies, and then moves onto look at the Biblical stance on women and equality. Danielle Strickland looks at the passages that have caused issues within the church, how these issues arose, and helps debunk the myths about women in the church. This book was an amazing read and I could not put it down. Everything in this book rang true for me and I've discovered a passion I did not realise was so strong within me.

Great insight into perceptions of power and mental institutions.

This is a fun book. I listened to it on audiobook, which was very enjoyable. It is a fun movie, too.

This was SOOOO GOOD! I absolutely LOVE this series! I'll admit I was a little nervous at where it was going when she came back to the school and Bex and Zach seemed to be so cozy. Ugh, it made my heart ache at the thought of him cheating on her. I didn't want to think badly of Zach. (view spoiler) This book was so different then any other book. Cam, was different. You could tell throughout the book she was just not the same Cameron. The book had a darker more depressing feel to it. But it was all explained in the end, and I loved that we got to see the old Cam again on the last few pages. She was back to her scheming, less serious self. It was weird how you could feel the difference in her as you read. As usual, I was laughing through out the book. There are some great one liners. Her friends are so funny. The ONE complaint that I had was that the scenes with Cammie and Zach were way to short. Their conversations were too short, usually only lasting for half a page or so. It was so sweet seeing the concern Zach had for Cammie, that is why I wanted more of it. I wanted more some more of the focus on him. His role was different in this book. Usually Zach is always "in the know". But in this book he was definitely "in the dark". Like everyone else, so it was definitely a different way of seeing him. But one thing that didn't change about him, was he always seemed to pop up at the right times. He was usually always there when Cammie needed him. Every time she was really upset, he was always there to hug her and let her cry on his shoulder. So sweet. Gotta love Zach. Oh yeah, and I kind of wish we could have read a little more about what Cammie remembered about her torture. When she remembered things and explained to everyone what happened, it was skipped over. I'm assuming that because this is a YA book, torture would be a little too violent, but I wish we could have had SOMETHING, SOME memory. I can't wait to read more. I read that Ally Carter thinks the series should be wrapped up in book 6. And from the end of this book I can see where that would work. Not that I want it to be wrapped up. :( But, I haven't seen any mention of a book 6 being written or when it is expected to be published. :( ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FAVORITE QUOTES My first favorite is just ALL OF CHAPTER 17. *sigh* Zach. :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All over the floor there were papers and charts and note cards. It was exactly what I'd always imagined the inside of Liz's head to look like. "What's all this?" "Rome," Liz said, as if that single word were an all-encompassing answer to my question. I pointed to the line on a a flip chart that just read MACEY in capital letters. Macey shrugged. "I have a jet," she said, because, I guess, "free jet" is an asset that should never be undervalued. "Guys, that's awesome, but I can't go to Rome. You know that, right?" "But. . . " Macey started, then trailed off, pointed at her name. "Jet." ~ Cammie, Liz and Macey ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Where are we going?" he asked. "The embassy." I thought about the walls, the gates, the marines. Rule of thumb: when in doubt, find a marine. ~Ambassador Winters and Cammie HECK YEAH FIND A MARINE!! :) (Loved that quote) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Zach," I said as I lay there. "Where did you go? When you were looking for me?" I shifted in his arms, looked into his eyes. "Crazy." His voice was a whisper against my skin. "I went crazy." ~ Cam and Zach ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I blinked and turned, the leather couch soft and warm against my face and hands. Zach leaned against the wall, staring at me. "You know," I whispered, "some girls might think it's creepy having a boy watch them sleep." He smirked and pointed to himself. "Spy." "Oh," I nodded. "Right. So you're a trained Peeping Tom." "Product of the best peeping academies in the country." "Well, now I feel much better." "You should." ~Cam and Zach I had to add the smirking, pointing at himself and saying "spy" quote. I love it. Every time he says it.

One of the best of the Joe Pickett novels. Hunters are being hunted by a serial killer who is relentlessly pursued by Joe. An excellent twist.

Maybe my expectations were too high, but the writing wasn't stellar (I was wanting the beautiful flow and authentic voice of "Wild Swans") and the plot didn't grab me. Maybe this just shows I have no true love. :)

Like many young children, I grew up with the story of Noah and the Ark by heart...the flood, the fuzzy cuddly animals living two by two in the huge expanse of the Ark, the dove and the rainbow and the happily ever after. But what if it wasn't like that? What if Noah had a daughter who didn't necessarily agree with her father's actions? Most of this book is told by Timna, Noah's daughter, who is quietly cynical about knowing her place in the family ("A daughter is not the same blessing as a son, after all...They are the only ones who will be mentioned a hundred years from now when people tell our story. I know I won't figure." p.2). Other voices, including Noah's sons, their wives, even the animals on the Ark, contribute to this very dark tale. The Ark is foul and frightening at times, and just when I came to some hope in the book, despair would overtake and I found myself slamming it shut and having to walk away. I imagine this book might be very offensive to people who are staunchly fundamentalist or not strong enough in their faith to challenge it. So it's not for everyone. Nonetheless, this is a very well written story and one of my favorite books.
