A really good book with an awesome plot...the ending was just a little weird for me, though. I gave it 5 stars because the story line was so interesting and the style of writing was great.

** spoiler alert ** This book was not as good as the others in the series, but I gave it a 3 anyway, because it did end well. It was a long book and slow to get started, and I really felt like it should have ended about halfway through. The book starts with Bella's wedding day. Edward and Bella marry take off for an exotic, but boring (at least to the reader) honeymoon. Bella decides she likes the being human and experiencing Edward, and suggests she remain human a bit longer. Edward, of course, is fine with that. They cut the honeymoon short when Bella realizes she is pregnant. The fetus/baby is growing at astonishing speed, and destroying Bella in the process. It is a difficult pregnancy and no one knows if Bella will survive it. I felt that after the baby was born would have been a good 'happily-ever-after' ending. BUT the book dragged on. The baby continues to grow at astonishing speed and has special powers. Jacob imprints upon her and will not be separated from her, which leads to some tense scenes between Bella and Jacob. The book picks up again when Alice sees the entire Voltari coming for the baby. She and Jasper take off. The rest of the family scatters, searching for reinforcements. The story has a happy ending, but leaves room for a sequel with several questions unanswered. Do the Voltari return? Will there be a story of Jacob and Renesme? Do I care enough to read a 5th book?

This is one of last books my father read, and he raved about it all the time. My father wasn't an avid reader, but when he was enthusiastic about something, he raved about it often. His boss and friend wrote it, and two years later, I finally got around to reading it. This is historical fiction, set in the time of America's gold rushes. I don't normally read historical fiction set in America--I'm more of a Tudor England reader. That's probably why I put off reading this for so long--but I really regret not being able to discuss it with my father. There were little ironies that I liked, such as the mirror's downfall. The writing was simple, almost like that used in children's fiction, and sometimes I was frustrated with it. There were some typos and strange sentence structures, but I'm sure it's iUniverse's fault--Bob, get a real agent and publisher! Despite my regret, I can't bring myself to finish it; mainly because I'm just so uninterested in the material. Maybe later?
