Cliche and melodramatic.

Not nearly as good as his New Yorker articles. I found it to be too dumbed-down and preachy.

Just what you might expect... it gives you the sensations of living in a medieval legend... especially if you are a woman.

One of my favorite Crais books. Kept me on the edge throughout.

This first book in an intended series sets the scene well. The action begins quickly, without too much tedious exposition. The world is extremely well woven with the ancient Greek gods blending perfectly into an otherwise Urban Fantasy setting. I wasn’t sure how well this idea would play out at first, but by the time I was a few chapters in I was convinced and deeply engrossed in the story. The pacing is excellently balanced, the sense of anticipation maintained even in the lulls between the action scenes. The characters are well realised: Kyana is a feisty and compelling heroine while Ryker manages to avoid becoming a dull stereotype. The plot idea came across as fresh and original and maintained my interest throughout. The prose was easy going and full of good descriptive passages. This was a page-turner from start to finish and I was very unhappy when I reached the last page and realised I would have to wait for the next instalment to continue the story. This will definitely be a series I will follow and I recommend the book to any Urban Fantasy fans.

I want to add a children's book to my list. I've read A Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day a million times (not recently, unfortunately). It's about a boy who's having a bad day and he continues to say "Maybe I'll just move to Australia," or something to that effect. I can't remember if it all works out in the end or what, but it's so much fun to read out loud with a kid because what's more fun to day that "A Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day." And look, we even have those days as adults. Maybe I deal with them better since I read this book as a child. Maybe the "Australia" thing is synonymous to giving up and the lesson is: Today might suck, but tomorrow could be OK. God, Australia seemed like Mars at the time. It's like Australia??? Woah, you must be crazy, Alexander. Nobody lives there!

My least favorite Hale book. Heroine wasn't as endearing as her others, story was a little more edgy. But an interesting plot, and lyrical, innovative writing.
I liked it, but thought the relationship was a bit intense for a high-schooler. Then I started to think about how I acted in High School and it didn't seem much far off!
