Interesting memoir about a woman whose husband cheated on her and how she came to discover it and deal with the unraveling of her marriage. What keeps the book from being wholly mopey is that the author has a keen awareness of her own faults in both her marriage and in her friendships. She talks often about her own neediness, for example, and she's self-deprecating at times--she's very likable, and as she says, people tell her she writes good emails, so she must be a good writer. Recommended if you want a book that takes, at most, two days to read and has an interesting topic.

I haven't read this book in years, but I remember I LOVED it and became a life-long fan of Erma Bombeck's because of it. As am adult, I really wantto read it again because I do think some of the humor was lost to me before I was a parent.

I loved it, and though it's a mega-tome I reread it whenever practical. George's grasp of the history is impressive, yet none of the story or its characters are lost in the tiny accurate details or scenery.

In A Deadly Cliché by Ellery Adams, Olivia Limoges brings us back to the coastal town of Oyster Bay, North Carolina, where the townsfolk are still curious, the beaches are still beautiful and the Bayside Book Writers are still meeting regularly to critique the work being done on their individual novels. The book starts out with Olivia and her ever so faithful poodle, Captain Haviland, discovering a dead man buried in the beach just a short walk from her home. More than a little bizarre, this body has not only been buried neck deep, but the man is found naked and holding a shovel in his hand. The murder on the beach seems to take on new meaning for Olivia when she finds out shortly after discovering the body that there has been a series of burglaries throughout Oyster Bay. Even more interesting, strange items are being strategically left behind at each crime scenes leading the authorities to call on the Bayside Book Writers for assistance. Butter with a knife sticking out of it is left at one crime scene and a deck of cards with a missing Queen is left at another. The most creepy case was the discovery of antique dolls that had been damaged; one being left with a silver spoon shoved in its mouth. But it isn't until the murder of one of the home owners that the Bayside Book Writers make a connection between the burglaries and the body found on the beach. Using the investigative reporting skills of a member of the Bayside Book Writers, the group is able to find the hidden meaning behind all of the clichés, but not before the killers make their final move. In A Deadly Cliché by Ellery Adams, we also get a closer look inside Olivia's past when a mysterious package arrives at her restaurant demanding money to learn the whereabouts of her father, a man that has been missing for 30 years. The story adds another dimension to the history surrounding Oyster Bay and leaves you mourning at her loss and rejoicing at the future she has ahead. Another favorite part of this series is that these characters are writers and while reading A Deadly Cliché you get a good look at the novels these characters are creating. The novels being written within the book include fantasy and science fiction. In all honesty, I'm just as anxious to see the novels within this novel. She's a gifted writer and I'm curious to know if she really plans to pen a book in the science fiction / fantasy genre. I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series.

Lately, I've had a distinct lack of interest in reading. I don't know why; don't ask. It just... Happened. So, naturally, I thought it was time that I got back into the game, and so I decided to reread a personal favorite of mine, The Bartimaeus Trilogy. This first book, The Amulet of Samarkand, is everything that I remembered it to be. Witty, smart, fun, and just plain cool. It holds nostalgic value to me. The story is (forgive my French,) badass in every way imaginable, the action is well written, and the characters feel like old friends that I haven't spoken to in ages. This book, and the entire trilogy as a whole, deserve every single star I've given to them, and then some. If you haven't already, I recommend you try out The Bartimaeus Trilogy IMMEDIATELY. Well, what are you still reading this for? GO!

This is the book that inspired me to become a beekeeper. The writing is clear, concise and always interesting. Much like Mary Roach, Bishop's style delivers facts via humor and obscure information that keeps your attention throughout. A must read for natural history buffs as well as anyone interested in honey and/or honeybees. My Amazon review: I don't think I can add much to all of the valid points the other reviewers have touched on (although I take issue with the scientific criticisms of one reviewer - I think she didn't read those passages closely enough) however I can't resist saying how enjoyable and eminently readable Holley Bishop's book is. Her writing style is engaging and memorable. It has been a long time since I have had such a wonderful combination of history, science, anthropology, and memoir ("Stiff" by Mary Roach probably being the last one). Bishop provides so much fabulous information I have no doubt she is creating a new generation of wanna-beekeepers that just might help save our swiftly deteriorating honeybee populations. I am recommending this book all over the place and everyone is loving it. A great read from teen on up.
