I don't have much to say on this book. It's hilarious. Perhaps the best thing about it is that it can poke fun at its own pomposity and political correctness at large. Too often, political correctness (rightly or wrongly) has no sense of humor at all.

Took me awhile to get into this book. I really ended up liking it in the end though. I had high expectations and while it was good it didn't blow my mind.

This book rocks, and if you don't already know Audre Lorde, you will get to know her through this compelling memoir. She has a lot to teach all of us, trust me!

One day I was at my favorite Apple Book Store $1 sale and there it was, on the shelf when you first walk into the store, not where it belonged but almost waiting to jump out at me. A book about witchcraft, hmmmm. Of course I bought it but I am sad to report that the reading of this book was not the magical experience that I had been hoping for. I love the cover, the web site dedicated to the book, the subject matter of Salem witches, the Harvard grad thing, so for two hundred pages I just felt confused as to why I didn't love the actual writing in the book. The first two hundred pages are torture, like get a witch to confess torture. If I hadn't owned it I would have thrown in the towel. The pacing of the story is terrible. The author never learned that you have to give the reader something interesting in order to get them to keep reading. Then you get to page 200, part 2 of the book and bam everything takes off. Suddenly Connie discovers she is a witch and she can do magic. Her love interest Sam is in terrible danger because a spell has been placed on him by? you will have it figured out in no time I'm sure. I found I liked the chapters that went back in time to the Salem witch trials and which featured Connie's ancestor, Deliverance Dance from whose name the title of the book is taken, better than the the ones that featured Connie in the present. The last moments between Deliverance and her daughter Mercy was the only part of the book that really touched me. The mandrakes and philosophers stone references were well known to me from Harry Potter and from which they were probably cribbed. The idea of a scholar/ witch was done much better in A Discovery of Witches and would probably be a better choice over this one.

I had forgotten how amazing the 2nd book in Kate Atkinson's series was! In Case Histories, she tells the story of three murders separated by generations, but in this book she does the reverse. One Good Turn is the story of how one seemingly random act of violence can impact the lives of 4 characters over the course of 3 days. These four characters each get their own very detailed stories, with a ton of complicated overlaps and seeming coincidences. All of her disparate plot threads come crashing back together in the last few pages, making for one of the most satisfying reads in recent memory!

M-O-O-N spells "I freaking love this book!" Yes, it's bloated. Yes, King can drag things out way too long and then have trouble making it all come together in a coherent ending that isn't a gimmick. Yes, he really likes Maine. Yes, he likes to have magical minorities, children and simpletons as stock figures. All of this is true, and yet when he's on his game, none of that matters because he takes all his cliches and makes something great out of them. This monster of a novel is one that will stick with me forever, and gave me my abiding love of "end of the world as we know it, and THEN things get worse" novels.

With a happy sigh I completed this book. Never has a book been so relaxing and delightful to read. The descriptions of the English countryside are vibrant and vivid; I found myself wishing I was there. Cassandra Mortmain is our first-person storyteller, and so endearing and sympathetic. I wanted to be her friend and rode the tide of her emotions right along beside her as I read. The author's voice is so strongly expressed through her. I saw every other character through her eyes. This book is now numbered among my favorites.

Another great installment of the Wheel of Time by Sanderson. Once again, there was forward movement on the story lines and the scene was artfully set for the Last Battle. Cannot wait for the final installment to be finished!

My enjoyment of this book may have been affected by the fact that I was reading it for school and knew that I was going to have to write an essay about it. But overall I did really enjoy this book, which surprised me because at first I was hesitant to pick it up and only started reading it because my friend had it and it was the only convenient book for me to read at the time. There is a lot of sex in this book, but quite quickly I got used to it and the parts in between where there is a lot of philosophy and what I found to be an interesting analysis of life. I liked the way that the characters were all interconnected in someways without it seeming unbelievable. The book is written in language that is not difficult to understand at all. I learned quite a bit from this book with regards to philosophy and a little about the history of Prague during that time period.
