I really liked this book. I gave it a four for length and the fact that several characters were introduced but never heard from again! I'm assuming that we'll see more of them in later books, but those chapters just left me a little confused. I actually found the first half to be quite entertaining despite what I've read about in other reviews! I'm looking forward to the rest of the series! Finished: March 4, 2011. **I enjoyed reading this even more the second time around! I was sad to see it end, but I'm excited to finally get started on book two! I gave it four stars the first time, and I'm happy to give it five this time!

Call me crazy, and I probably am, but I absolutely loved this medivial romance between a king and his courtesan. At 15 years old I found it in the back of my mother's closet, read it through to the last page only to reopen it and read it through again. The entire story is told from the courteson's point of view and she is really kept in the dark in regards to her lover's real feelings and yet she's willing to risk her life just to remain close to him. Sappy, I know, but in my teen years I couldn't get enough of this story.

This is my first David Sedaris read - he's quite entertaining and the bite size stories are easy to take in during, say, your morning commute or an airplane ride. I just started his Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, which is downright cynical and depressing, but this book is lovely.

Fun story, fast read. I enjoyed it. Made me glad I'm not still in high school :)

This is a fun book to look through. I mostly just read the sections on the books I've already read. For each book it gives and summary of the book, recipe ideas used by book clubs when discussing the book, and a description of the book club (how they met, their "rules" for the club, etc.). An interesting idea and nice to revisit some books I read long ago.

I just really didn't like this book. I thought it was dull, slow and boring. The story didn't come together well in my opinion. I got the whole point of it, but I didn't really enjoy it at all.

This book hooked me from the start, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series! It's just another day at school for Sam Temple when *poof* his teacher is gone. So are all the other teachers in his school. And all the adults in his town of Perdido Beach. Everyone age 15 and older is simply gone in the blink of an eye. And Sam fears that his mysterious "power" may have somehow caused the disappearances... What happens in a world where there is no one over the age of 14? Well, some will step up to take care of the younger children and some of the work in the community. Bullies will exert their power. Eventually good and evil will clash...

Still easy to read but it's getting a little old with her self sacrifice attitude but I wanted to finish the series.

One thing I can say is that Esselmont does a good job of capturing the feel of Malaz that Erikson has already created. I didn't really feel like I was reading someone else's work (even if the word potshards doesn't appear once in this book). As far as a collaborative work goes "Night of Knives" is a winner.

overall good book. A little confusing at some parts: I didn't really know where she was when. but other than that I loved it. great characters.
