I love this story. Though it needs to be read at the very least two times lol. I recommend that. LOL, so does Sir Lloyd Andrew Webber HAhaha :P Anyways, this story is so full of passion for many things. Passion for love, passion for music, for dance, passion for the theatre, for opera, a passion to be accepted, to be noticed, passion TO BE loved, a passion for possessiveness, and I'm sure even more. So many passions from so many people or lol in a special case just one person. It's a bit dark, sensual, mysterious. The characters are enjoyable, and you fall in love with them all, well I did anyways ;) One of my all time favourite books. I received it in my last year of primary school, as a speech day school prize. I never picked it up to read until hm, I'm not sure four or five years later? I attempted mind you, before that, but lol, between 10-14, I was not interested in it, and the writing style bored me. It's only when I tried later, I read through different writing style, the version I read I guess used the style that Gaston wrote in. Which is probably why you might need to read it again to fully grasp it. Also understand, this and the musical are different. Same storyline, but a lot of it in the musical is still different. The musical rocks too though :D. :D

I really enjoy the Greywalker series. This book kept me entertained and engaged. It was an easy read, a good book to relax to and keep my mind off of other things. Really looking forward to the next book to find out what happens next.

Wow...the Goodreads community is really hatin' on this one. I don't think it deserves quite such harsh treatment. However, I often have a fairly high tolerance for overly wordy writers. And I can stomach an unpleasant narrator from time to time. Any reader whose preference is an admirable story teller would get a belly full of Jake quick enough...he is a pig. In my estimation, although slow going at times, the book merits 3 stars. The plot is convoluted in that the action covers several historic eras (Shakespearean England, Nazi Germany and present day New York) and activity on 2 continents. In this way it mirrors one of my favorite recent works --The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova. (although I definitely prefer the latter title) It is an implausible yarn and, as others have pointed out, a flawed tale. I allowed myself to be taken along for the ride and actually had some fun along the way. It is a bit frustrating to think about how the intriguing subject matter could be handled in a steadier and more refined manner. However, the egomaniac Jake, gross and crude as he was, would not have intimidated William Shakespeare, a writer who could certainly play to all the various strata in his audience. Not a masterpiece, certainly...but readers who enjoy unreliable narrators may find this a bit better than advertised.

مسرحية ليست بالطويلة لكنها رائعة. تحمل فلفسة عميقة للغاية بداخلها، وتناقش العلاقة بين الزوج والزوجة في قالب ساخر جميل. كما أن حكمة الطموح والكفاح من أجل الحياة كانت حاضرة بقوة. المشهد الأول للصراصير هو تجسيد لصور حقيقية.. وبه إسقاطات واضحة بقوة، بدا ذلك على سبيل المثال عندما قال الصرصار الملك أنه كلّف وزيره بكل شيء لأنه لا يجيد التصرّف في أي شيء.
