If I could, I would have rated this book 3.5 stars. I really like it, but I'm not sure I love it. I received this book as a gift from a former high school teacher of mine when I graduated from college. I'm not sure if he is hoping that he is my Morrie, or what. I hope he was just hoping that I would like the life lessons in the story. And I do appreciate them very much. I've re-read this book a few times and it never fails to make me cry in certain parts...as if I don't know what is going to happen in the end. For those few of you who are unfamiliar with this book, it is about the relationship that the author has with a former professor of his after he hears that this professor has come down with a degenerative disease. It reads sort of like a journal as the author realizes more and more about the life he is living in comparison with the life of the man that he so admires. I've read some of the authors other work and it seems really forced to me. This work flows nicely and I would suggest it as a good read for anyone. Although if you are sentimental, you should keep some tissues handy.

I was not expecting much out of this book. I thought it would be predictable and just like every other romance novel I've ever read. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of twists this book included. In the end, I was shocked and horrified by the way the characters handled each situation. Their attitudes did fit their personalities though and I applaud the author for sticking to the true characters even though they may sound like idiots when it comes to their reactions. I really don't want to give anything away but I will say that I recently saw a movie preview for this book and I was appalled to see that they obviously changed things around. The movie could very well be just as wonderful as the book but there are definitely differences so I recommend to everyone that wants to see the movie that they should read the book first. The book is always the right version of the story.

I'm still reeling from this one. Much less character driven than other 9/11 novels (_Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close_ or _The Emperor's Children_) and much more philosophical. In many ways, the novel is a treatise on the importance of remembering -- keeping trauma and pain real and personal so that they cannot be corrupted for propaganda's sake. This review cannot be anything but incomplete as I'm still wrapping my head around this one . . .

I enjoyed it; I'd like to read the rest of the books from this collection.

Mac is still figuring out her powers while staying in Barrons' bookstore. Barrons is still the same except towards the end you start to see him get a bit possessive over Mac. This book pretty much picks up where Darkfever left off. However, in this book there are new characters added into the story. Mac finds other Sidhe-seer's who have congregated together in an abbey. She makes a visit with them to figure out who/what she is. Barrons is still the same. However, he is starting to show feelings towards Mac. He doesn't try to woo her but he has started to view her more as the woman Mac than as his OOP detector. When she disappears with V'lane he is incredibly jealous and pissed. However, no matter what happens in this book he still maintains his distant cool and acts like she doesn't matter to him. This book didn't really progress storywise, it was more like a build up for the next book. You find out the Mac cannot be near the book without passing out because she is too pure. She finds other sidhe-seer's like her and plans to get answers from them. She meets up with a guy who knew her sister before she died. All of these go unanswered with promises that the next book will fill you in. Favorite quote... "Yes, I have loved, Ms. Lane, and although it's none of your business, I have lost. Many things. And no, I am not like any other player in this game and I will never be like V'lane, and I get a hard-on a great deal more often than occasionally. Sometimes it's over a spoiled little girl, not a woman at all." -Barrons "I was about to look away when he reached across the seat, touched my jaw with his long, strong, beautiful fingers, and caressed my face. Being touched by Jericho Barrons with kindness makes you feel like you must be the most special person in the world. It’s like walking up to the biggest, most savage lion in the jungle, lying down, placing your head it its mouth and, rather than taking your life, it licks you and purrs." -Mac

I liked this book. OVERVIEW: Is the life you're living all you imagined? Have you ever asked yourself, "What if??" Here, four women face the decisions of their lifetimes in this stirring and unforgettable novel of love, loss, friendship, and family. Anna Geneva, a Chicago attorney coping with the death of a cherished friend, returns to her "speck on the map" hometown of Haven to finally come to terms with her mother, the man she left behind, and the road she did not take. Cami Drayton, Anna's dearest friend from high school, is coming home too, forced by circumstance to move in with her alcoholic father . . . and to confront a dark family secret. Maeve, Anna's mother, never left Haven, firmly rooted there by her sadness over her abandonment by the husband she desperately loved and the hope that someday he will return to her. And Amy Rickart—thin, beautiful, and striving for perfection—faces a future with the perfect man . . . but is haunted by the memory of what she used to be. Kristina Riggle's The Life You've Imagined takes a provocative look at the choices we make—and the courage we must have to change.

Many parents of preschoolers are on a first name basis with Dora, Diego, Blue - and the many other Nick and Noggin characters that are always available for an "anytime playdate." Dade Hayes, father of two, explores the world of preschool entertainment in this book by providing a glimpse behind several of the genre's most successful shows. One of the newest offerings, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan,is discussed in detail - from the show's earliest beginnings to the research conducted with preschoolers at a New York school to the process of the show getting on the airwaves. In doing so, Hayes gives an interesting, eye-opening view of the world of preschool entertainment. I expected this book take a stance on the never-ending debate of whether preschoolers should even be watching TV to begin with, but instead, refreshingly, Hayes respects his reader's intelligence and parenting abilities enough to allow them the right to make their own decisions and form their own opinions. The "behind the scenes" glimpses into the process behind several shows is very interesting and makes for a well-done read.
