This book suprised me. At first I wasn't sure a book about comic book writers was something I was going to enjoy, but it was touching, funny, and completely involving. The characters were amazing, and I found myself really caring about them. Sometimes Chabon's style can take awhile to get used to, but I learned to appreciate the wit and style quickly. Kavalier and Clay won the Pulitzer prize, and I was absolutely unable to put it down. One of those books you really slow down reading towards the end because you never want it to be over. It became one of my favorite books I've read in years and years, probably one of my top ever. I can't say enough about this book, I loved it. I stole a copy of this book from my college roommate, and I'm fairly sure she's not getting it back.

A travel book with no pictures???? Some interesting places to see, more I'm still not inclined to visit. The title made it seem like they would all be cool places. They're not. But still, interesting read for the ones that are truly interesting.

I kind of enjoyed this in that it was incredibly light and a very quick read. I was a little horrified at the introduction of an extremely well known historical figure in the novel and I desperately hope they left that out in making the TV series. I wont' be going out of my way to read any further through the series.

This is one of the best books I have read in a while. It is about two friends who meet when they were thirteen and immediately develop a very close relationship (some may so uncomfortably close). As they grow up, they go through so many difficult situations and events but they always have each other to help make it through. It is a great book for anyone who has a lifelong best friend or anyone who has ever wished they still had a close relationship with that special friend back in junior or high school.

This is hands down my favorite book. The simple way Lee dealt with complex issues is jarring in its elegance. I truly loved the characters and the setting. So, so good.

this book was pretty good. excellent intro for the lay reader to caravaggio - who was interesting in that he was a total thug - and some techniques and history of painting restoration. reads like a novel altho it is non-fiction, which was offputting at first but lends itself to the ease with which you absorb the information. won't change your life but recommended indeed!

I'm not sure what to write about this collection. It has some things that I don't like about it: the profanity, the sad, traumatic, and graphic subject matter. But the writing is so good. Something about O'Brien's honesty and expert handling of the language is so beautiful and soothing that I find myself picking this up to read over and over. Others may not be able to get the re-readability out of it that I have, but I recommend giving it a try.

This is probably going to make me seem completely dense, but I'm still a little fuzzy about how this book is supposed to be a criticism of either the greedy, short-sighted Wall Street culture of the '80s or the rapacious economic system in which they function. Maybe it's because the main character is able to do awful things without consciously acknowledging their cruelty? I really don't know. I do know that I like the excuse about needing to return some videos.
