I feel like things didn't quite come together properly at the end ... but then, this is a trilogy, so maybe things are explained in book 2. This attempts a kind of mystery, mysticism, and lyrical style that most fantasy writers rarely succeed with. Modern readers may find this to be difficult, because the style is not typical. Worth reading as something which was an influence on later writers. (I also think some but not all fantasy readers will enjoy it for its own sake.)

I first read Anne of Green Gables when I was in elementary school. Since then, I haven't read the books, though I wanted to. Finally this Christmas, I received the boxset, and immediately began re-reading. Now as a woman (though I still like to think of myself as a girl!), I enjoyed the book just as much. When I was a child, my imagination, my love for dramatic speaking and large words, were very akin to Anne's. It's pleasing to read about her life and realize several of the things she's done could very well have been done by me when I was younger, and the thoughts she had could very well have run through my head. I am just one of many who's been touched by these books, but how I'd have loved to reach out to Maud, to let her know just how much her books affected me. God bless you, Maud, for writing books that speak straight to my heart as if it they written for me individually...although they've touched others just the same. The magic in these beloved books is entirely too palpable.

It's been awhile since I read this book. I read it when the original came out. My kids were so into Harry Potter and all the controversy I just had to read them to and then I was hooked. Loved them all and so I will have the same review for all of them!

i loved it! loved it, loved it, loved it! i must say it was the best out of them all imo. the end was great and i liked how everything seemed to end nicely but without all the stupid cheesy moments. i wish you found out more of what happened later on, like an epilogue or something, but you can't always get what you want.
