Old heavy style. This was too booring for me to finish, although I almost did. Wanted to read something from a non-western-evangelical tradition, but was disappointed. Maybe I shouldn't be because this was written some centuries ago and it is too much to expect that is should be very readable according to modern standards. Francis of Assisi is a fascinating character, and a more up-to-date treatment of his life and work could very well have been rewarding reading. But then again, I like to look for gems outside of the beaten track, so I cannot always win.

[Re-read in September 2015] I liked bits of this, but I also skipped long swathes of dialogue because I just wasn't interested. So, mixed feelings! And no guilt about donating this book either.

I think by far this was the best of the Rachel Morgan series. The character development of everyone was amazing. As little as Ivy was in the story her growth and presence was amazing. Jenks, Bis, Pierce, mainly Al and Trent was just awesome. There were finally some answers about Rachel's actual presence and who she was the demise of the coven and their treachery, Ku'Sox and his demise....just overall wonderful. I'm glad to see Rachel coming into her own but really...Al and Trent were the biggest surprise. I loved the whole thing! Can't wait for the next installment.

A fantastic novel. I especially enjoyed it since I have a background in astronomy. It is different than most post-apocalypse fiction in that it spends a lot of time before the disaster. This is great because it allows you to see the characters as real people before they are thrust into the action. A must read for fans of the genre!

Another book I could not put down. I chose my recuperation books well as I seem to be reading a book a day this week as they are all fabby page turners which you cannot put down. This is the 2nd book I have read which is set if Afghanistan. This book made you realise just how similar life was for the richer Afghans before the Russians rolled in in the 1970s. The main character Amar is a character who goes through life with a huge guilt comlex from attrocities he witnessed but did not prevent as a child. His whole life shaped by these events. It was quite a harrowing and sad read in places but I found it to be fascinating and easy to read - a few tears were shed and the end was not as happy as I thought it might have been - but I suppose that makes it even more real.

Since I didn't watch the TV show, I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I was really looking for a book that my son (who plays high school football) might enjoy. What a pleasant surprise. This was an easy read full of inspirational messages, funny commentary and a look into other cultures. I really enjoyed the book. I liked that Dhani didn't get to football the typical route - playing from a small child and that's all you dream about and he came from an environment of education. Even his mom thought he could never make money at football and he needed to continue pursuing his career as a doctor. I also enjoyed experiencing the other cultures through Dhani's eyes - male, african american, celebrity, athlete, scholar. Excellent read for athletes and their parents.
