Please note: I read this book in January 2012 from a copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. My Synopsis: Marcie is crazy in love with Dan, and will do anything for him - even carry marijuana on the plane from Washington state to New Orleans. However, once there she is robbed and shoved, hitting her head on the cement in the process - and losing her memory. Enter Sam, a former DEA agent whose investigation against Lance Silver - one of the biggest drug lords that runs the west coast - has just gone south, leaving him confused and seeking solace in his home town. His chivalrous nature causes him to stop to help Marcie - and he ends up entangled in her mess. As they explore the problem, and their pasts, and Marcie starts to listen to her spirit guides, they learn that they are embroiled in a generations-long struggle with a dark entity, who seeks to destroy them as it has destroyed their ancestors. Marcie needs to make a choice, to turn back and walk the right path. Is she strong enough to do so? My Thoughts: A mystical romantic suspense, "The Choice" is a fascinating read, and one I highly enjoyed. I was particularly impressed with the author's knowledge of Tarot and how to read the cards. This book rates up with Doorway to the Triquetra as far as the importance of its lessons, and anyone interested in spirituality should enjoy this book as much as I did. I liked how the author developed the characters, and I especially liked the character of Diane - I'd love to see a book focusing on her, as I think she is a fascinating character. Strongly recommended for fans of romance, romantic suspense, and spirituality. Edited additional information: I should point out that I normally don't like romance novels, so they have to be something special for me to enjoy them, and this one was. It is also the first book in a series; there are four books total, or you can buy a "box set" with all four books rather than picking them up individually. If you like this author's style, she has a number of other books and another series. A very interesting and detailed book on Islam in America. I got this book late in 2010 and have just finished reading it so it would be interesting to see Dr. Ahmed do a follow up to this (and by exstention his previous book Journey Into Islam: The Crisis of Globalization) on how the Arab Spring has had, if any, on the perception of muslims in the US and abroad.

I think that this book, Jennifer Government, the Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged are all a good combination. The former two are fictionalized accounts of a libertarian/anarcho-capitalist dystopia, while the third is a good introduction to objectivism and the final an L/AC utopia.

** spoiler alert ** Intriguing...At first I thought it was book like Clementine, an ornery girl narrating her life. But it gets deeper when Ida B's mom gets cancer, and she reacts by shutting down her feelings and being mean, unresponsive and angry. (Might give good insight to teachers as to why a student is being so difficult.)

This novel was recently translated into English and based on the book cover, Marai was a leading novelist in Hungary in the 1930's who died it obscurity in CA in the 1989. There is something to be said for a novella that is told with an economy of words, in prose that is captivating. I read the book from start to finish and put it down wondering if what I really thought of it. The protagonist, Lajos, is a lying, self serving, swine that I never did understand or feel empathy for. It wasn't until the end that stopped empathizing with Esther when I realized she freely gave away what is portrayed as being taken. I really liked how the story is told via a series of memories of the past that link the characters in their present.
