This isn't a mystery novel or a crime novel. It is a quirky, humorous parody of English small village life. P.G. Wodehouse as black humor.

I went to hear Jeff Chang and Toure speak at Housing Works Used Book Cafe, way back when Can't Stop Won't Stop came out. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy, sort of unassuming. Not that this is relevant, necessarily. Plenty of great books written by assholes.

I felt the same way - not as good as the "11" book. It was like she pushed to do the "12." It didn't quite come around to the same quality, but it was still a book the kids would enjoy.

Loved this one! Touching story about family relationships, love and working hard and rising above what you've been dealt. Loved reading this and the Glass Castle right in a row. Julie and Amy should read it next.

Perhaps one of the most relevant books of our time. It becomes increasingly and frighteningly more prophetic seemingly with each successive political development and piece of legislation. It is a gradual and subtle slip into 1984.

I read this as I was trying to stay in love, but Kipnis is pretty insightful. She tears apart a lot of the dumb behaviors that go on in coupled life. I suppose my only gripe is that it's so heterosexually focused.

You need to have some knowledge of Greek mythology to enjoy this book I think. Salley Vickers' retelling of the Oedipus myth seems a bit pedestrian at first, but it grows on you, especially when you get to the scene where Oedipus discovers the truth. It's a lovely touch to have the ghost of Tiresias tell the story to the dying Freud and point out the aspects Freud missed due to his focus on sex, and his lack of interest in Jocasta's experience. Vickers explores other aspects of the myth with subtlety and intelligence. I didn't find it utterly compelling, but it's a short and occasionally thought-provoking read.

13 Little Blue Envelopes was a cute, quick read. I snagged it while it was free to download on the Kindle and picked it up while waiting to get my oil changed last week. It was a fun story that reminded me somewhat of the movie (book? I haven't read it) P.S. I Love You. Having had the opportunity to spend some time in Europe last year, it was fun remembering the places I visited along with Ginny during her journey. I would like to read its sequel, The Last Little Blue Envelope, but I'm not willing to dish out $9.99 for it. I might look for it at the library at some point, though!
