My favorite of Kundera's oeuvre.

I really enjoy Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Norville series and wanted to like Discord's apple as much as the others. The story had an interesting premise and I really liked certain aspects of the story. Unfortunately, it jumped around too much between the near apocalyptic near future, the mythological past and largely unnecessary vignettes through time of the main character's ancestors. I had a hard time connecting with the main character as a truly sympathetic character, while wanting to know more about some of the more intriguing secondary characters. The jumping around in the story line distracted me just as I was started to feel engaged and caused me to frequently set the book down, which is uncharacteristic of how I usually read her books. Overall, I think that the story would have been better served by allowing more room for the book to breathe and eliminating parts that don't serve to move the story forward.

A serious book with issues of social status and race, but very funny with good ole British humor.

I read this book straight through in a single night. It is still one of my all time favorite books forever! The story is highly emotional and examines our culture and what would happen to humans if all of our modern convinces suddenly failed. Two sisters must survive on their own in the forests of California. Very compelling.

Wow, fun way to get inspired to clean out the basement, main floors and attic of your house. I need to re-read this as it's been a while since I really cleaned out the basement.

I don't remember much about the specifics of this book, but I do remember that I didn't like it all that much. The partnership of Crusie and Mayer has since gotten a lot smoother. Skip this one and pick up "Agnes and the Hitman" instead.

This was a book that I struggled through. I was committed in my late junior high/early high school days to read the classics. I found Robinson Crusoe so dry and way too detailed. I wanted more action. Perhaps I need to reread it since about 10 years have gone by and I might feel differently.

I didn't know it when I checked it out, but as it turns out...it's a book about herbalism! So once the herbal information took off, I was thoroughly engaged. Also, it's a wonderful "small-town-story" (if you know what I mean) which I pretty much always enjoy. The small town girl in me, the one that really wants to live in a town for 300 people, fantasizes her way though the story. How complex the human experiences is, and how well small-town-stories illustrate that complexity. Really, a very enjoyable read.
