I had picked this up and had a different idea for what this book would be like than the introduction revealed. I lost interest in it (didn't get past the introduction) so I returned it to the library when it was due. The premise is definitely interesting though; I learned more about the WPA. However, it looked like it was going to be a drier book than I had expected. Perhaps someday I will try reading more of it, but there are lots of books out there that I have more desire to read right now.

I first saw the movie and I loved everything about it. The far-out characters, the music, the Ukrainian imagery. The book.... I need to read the book again. There's something not quite right about how everything came together at the end. Is Jonathon really so obsessed with sex that he and xxxx can't communicate?

this book talks about Jim and who he was and about the game of baseall, some even considering this book one of the most important books in baseball history. Jim Bouton wasnt the greatest pitcher to step on a mound in major league history, not even close. its like a diary from a baseball player. it really is, its a diary about the clubhouse and about what a major league player is thinking. Bouton made friends with a sports writer and told him to make a diary about the club house. its also a little like a confusion too. because it talks about the drugs, drinking. this book had many people against it in the beginning. a lot of controversy around this book being published. it was a part of baseball that nobody ever known. i would recommend this book to any baseball fan, or actually anyone period. its a little long but not that hard of a read.

This series is kind of like wine...the more it ages, the better it gets. Having read all five, I am much more favorably disposed towards this book that I was originally, simply because the overall plot of the series is extremely well done, though only the bare beginnings are seen in this installment. The first in the series is cute, light, and very fun. The concept is wonderful, and Riordan does a good job of bringing us into this world of greek heroes living amongst us! I especially adored the voice of Percy Jackson, who narrates everything in what can only be termed as "Boyspeak" in a very believable way. The characters are not quite fully drawn out, and the plot itself is rather episodic, but definitely a promising book that acts as a great lead in to the rest of the series!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I loved The Black Prism to an almost manic and unhealthy level. Knowing how highly thought of Weeks' Night Angel books were, I had been saving them like one would a fine wine. Well, the special occasion that I was saving that particular bottle for has arrived and I finished The Way of Shadows last night. It was intoxicating...and 12 hours later I am still drunk. (metaphors...dead horses...beating....much, ya' think?) The above paragraph is a spectacular example of why the best books that I encounter, rarely get a review quickly after I read them. I'm a mess. An emotional muddle. A wordsmith passenger on the U.S.S. Tartarus. Chaos + brain = me. Ugh! I'm sure it will take me days, if not weeks, to pull myself out of this gaping, awe-inspired incompetence to the point where I can write anything worth a damn. Until then, my best advice/review/reccomendation is... READ THIS BOOK. *Don't give me that crap about how you aren't much for fantasy writing, or how you can't see how an 'assassin book' would appeal to you. Even mentioning how you need something light and carefree with a HEA will make me want to slap you. Stop it. You resist the inevitable. The thought that this work of fiction is just the twisted and dark dreamspace of some genre writer, and that you need 'the real world' to ground you is tripe. No words between two covers are more based in the reality of emotions and motivations of people, than are the ones you will find in this book. Nay-sayers. Get moving. I'm watching you.*
