Great action story, though i got the feeling the author had to cut pages in the end of the book. Last part is a summary of events that deserved it's own 3 parts. So felt a bit hurried in the end.

The New York Times -- bestselling author presents her latest Arcane Society novel and introduces the first book in the Dreamlight Trilogy -- the story of a curse that spans generations, and the love that can heal it. . . . More than three centuries ago, Nicholas Winters irrevocably altered his genetic makeup in an obsessionfueled competition with alchemist and Arcane Society founder Sylvester Jones. Driven to control their psychic abilities, each man's decision has reverberated throughout the family line, rewarding some with powers beyond their wildest dreams, and cursing others to a life filled with madness and hallucinations. Jack Winters, descendant of Nicholas, has been experiencing nightmares and blackouts -- just the beginning, he believes -- of the manifestation of the Winters family curse. The legend says that he must find the Burning Lamp or risk turning into a monster. But he can't do it alone; he needs the help of a woman with the gift to read the lamp's dreamlight. Jack is convinced that private investigator Chloe Harper is that woman. Her talents for finding objects and accessing dream energy are what will save him, but their sudden and powerful sexual pull threatens to overwhelm them both. Danger surrounds them, and it doesn't take long for Chloe to pick up the trail of the missing lamp. And as they draw closer to the lamp, the raw power that dwells within it threatens to sweep them into a hurricane of psychic force.

Bill Ayers sure can write a good book. Some great fiction mixed with some nice platitudes that everyone can project on to - like the candidate himself. I read this and all recent books claimed to have been written by Obama. I also read that he had help from professional and ghost writers. Obama's books are more narcissism than evidence of a concern for social and economic justice under the US Constitution. Obama is just another great orator with less maturity, experience, and wisdom than most of our national and world thinkers. This book is just one more work of liberal Democrat propaganda. We all have dreams from our fathers...and mothers...but we choose to leave them out of print, so the book is just campaign and election fodder from a youthful and naive left-wing radical...and his even more left-wing and radical revolutionaries. At least Obama can truthfully claim to be African-American, a geographic-ethnic classification claimed in error by most other American blacks. After all, Obama may have been born in Africa and flown to Hawaii, or at least his father was a full African. Most conspiracies are more plausible as fact supported by evidence, but media bamboozlement, cover-ups, fabrications in order to hide the truth from Americans, make-believe that reality is just a conspiracy, and higher-ups, gov't ops and new world orderists make-up a lie that pleases most people, a false illusion of comfort that keeps all American's in their closets, fearing the gov't, with a false sense of security. Wake up America! Wait, no it's to late to wake up, just keep sleeping, nothing else left to do but to self-destruct.

I got about half way through... into it... into the characters and then I felt enough, enough with all the suspenseful put offs, get to the meaty stuff already. And then the meaty stuff happened so fast it was like it was shoved down your throat.

I am currently re-reading this novel in honor of Vonnegut. It certainly is not his finest book but it was his last novel-thing (I say that since it is a strange amalgam of novel and memoir) and some of the comments about mortality ring a little differently knowing that he is dead.

Suspense, romance, interesting topic. Sometimes the dialogue was slow.

Remarkably easy reading, runs smoothly almost like a novel. Very factual and true to history.

I just loved it! Bertie and Stuart break free. Irene goes away, but only for a while. And so many good things that I don't want to spoil. Alexander McCall Smith is the dear friend that I invite to stay for a spell when the world seems grey and bleak, and he always leaves me with a smile, however wry, and a tear in the eye.

After loving the movie, I enjoyed reading some of the background story as researched by Lionel Logue's grandson.

It's a story about sisters and orphans and love and loneliness and I dare you not to relate. Also, it made me cry. Gorgeous characters.
